Cornell Quirks

Most Cornell students could care less, but a small minority get heavily involved in the senior societies. There are more than two.

People make Quill and Dagger out to be bigger than it actually is. It's essentially just the leaders of cornell's major organizations. You have the president of IFC and Panhellenic, Cornell Sun Editor-in-Chief, Head of slope day programming board, head of Into the Streets, president of Student assembly, and just general campus leaders. I personally know about 5-6 people in the last tapping class and it seems to me like Q&D is just a drinking and social organization. The new tapping class is printed in the Cornell Daily Sun each semester. Sphinx Head is similar but it is more low-key and based around service leadership.

"The White Party" is thrown by the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity.

I think the Telluride House should definitely be noted. It's pretty unique. So should the Honors Chem frat and the Ag Frats.

The same goes for most of the formal (and informal) co-ops. Especially Watermargin and 660. Pretty quirky.

Cayuga, do explain on that secret tunnel..sounds sweet by how I'm imagining it =]

it would have to be quite the tunnel considering there's a big gorge in between the two buildings

Cayuga's talking about "Ezra's Tunnel" (?). It was built by Ezra Cornell in his 20's before Cornell was founded. Between Risley and Rand is a bit off, but that may be his intention. It's not too hard to find, but most students don't know about it.

I was actually trying to egg people on, but Ezra's Tunnel is definitely something to note. As is the hydroelectric plant below the suspension bridge.

ooo do tell more about this tunnel! Is it still accessible at all?

probably not...

and i found this on ithaca's craigslist's rants and raves:

hxxp://ithaca.craigslist.org/rnr/791064396.html

Yes the tunnel is still accessible, you don't get to it from the usual gorge steps that lead to the swimming hole. But its a shame they fenced those off. It probably won't keep people out though.

****. Did they really fence off the gorges?

more people are going to get hurt because now gorge jumping on north is the only option on campus. or you can just get down to the fall creek gorges from behind risley/by the thurston bridge

Can someone give general directions to this tunnel? From West?

This should give you a general idea:

View of Fall Creek From Stewart Ave Bridge on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Good luck getting there considering recent developments.

They fenced off the gorges?!?!? NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!! The ones under the suspension bridge??????? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

ps this thread realllllllllllly makes me want to be at Cornell

and hahahahha the Chinese restaurants really do force u to eat handouts whenever u walk past. It's sooo funny.

it's not FDA approved because of its fat content.

False. This is a myth.

hahah, I've heard that FDA ice cream rumor before too. When I told people it, I always got the same response: "How would they legally be able to sell it to us then?"

blue bell > cornell ice cream > ben and jerries ^_^

purity > bluebell> cornell ice cream> ben and jerry's

What I've heard about the ice cream, is that a while ago the fat content was so high, that it should have been technically called ice butter, and not cream. They've reduced their fat content since then (maybe b.c. of the FDA?)

Two more quirks:
- the tunnel connecting Uris, Olin, and Stimson
- the apple vending machine in Plant Science

wait, what? apple vending machine???
