Cornell RD 2024

Re#461, I have done some research. The first case up there was reported on March 15. Since then they have been testing, and they are now up to 48 positives in Tompkins county. https://ithacavoice.com/2020/03/covid-19-up-to-48-positives-tchd-finds-evidence-of-community-spread/

@monydad Cambridge has 46. That doesn’t include greater Boston.

My daughter was offered a guaranteed ILR Transfer Option for fall of 2021. Has anyone else received this option for ILR? Does ILR also have students start in January? Are there students who are on the ILR waitlist for this fall? DD has high stats 35 ACT, 800s on all her subject tests, high GPA, sports captain, etc.

Re#3463, I wasn’t implying that this was, or wasn’t, some alarming number, I was just reporting what I learned. I didn’t know they had any. (and two weeks ago they didn’t).

hi im new to this thread but i got waitlisted to cornell and was wondering what are my chances to get accepted in? I’m writing a letter of continued interest, have legacy, and attended a six week program there over the summer. Do you think any of these factors would help? What are the chances of getting into CALS from waitlist?

Hi all: My S was waitlisted for CAS and has a button for FYSA. Is this mean he is guaranteed a spot in FYSA once he says yes to both?

When should we send a letter of continued interest? What would be a good time? I do not want to send it in too late. Also, should I send in another recommendation along with the letter of continued interest? I am new to this process so I was just wondering if it would help my chances to send in a recommendation letter as well?

Do you mean an “option” for FYSA?
If he was waitlisted, there would be no guarantee.

@mimioc213 Hi! I am still considering other options although this does push Cornell higher up the list. I am trying to decide between Cornell, Johns Hopkins and Northeastern. I still have to wait on financial aid though before I can decide.

Does anyone know when financial aid come out? Someone said March 31st but does anyone know a time like morning or evening?

@trevormac no idea

I just received mine.

Financial aid is out. Does anyone know how to get to the award acceptance page to accept your awards?

@hsparent13 Was it an email? Or did you log on somewhere because I cannot find it. Are they releasing them in waves?

@brookegia when did you receive the financial aid award? What program was your child accepted into?

DS accepted COE–computer science.

He’s got a lot of great options. In the end, he’s leaning towards UVM–they have a strong CS program, he loves Burlington & VT, the overall vibe of the school and students. Siblings attend Cornell (COE cs) & they love it and thrive in the intense, hard core environment. This kid, not so. I’m relieved he recognizes that about himself. I was genuinely concerned about his well being at a place like Cornell, especially in the college of engineering and computer science. I’ve seen many kids crash and burn here, feel isolated/alone, some who believe a little too hard in the fairy tale of attending an elite college/Ivy and then feel disappointed with a reality that doesn’t fit the dream.

Congratulations to all accepted. Cornell is an amazing place to go to school–my kids love it. The campus is kind of magical. To those who may not have gotten the answer they wanted, you’ll find your amazing place. Trust.

Son accepted.
Out of state - Chicago, IL.

Unfortunately Cornell wants too much money.

Accepted to 4 other Ivies. Yale won.

Older son at Harvard ('22)

I personally loved the location and campus (maybe even more than Yale’s), but it is not my decision after all.

I know several students offered FYSA (First Year Spring Admit) who were on the waitlist initially. I’m not sure if that gets you an automatic FYSA admit or if the FYSA admit list must lose a few students in order to get your student admitted. I also know others who were on the waitlist, did not choose FYSA and actually got in off the waitlist. Obviously it depends upon where your student is on the waitlist as to what is available. I have two kids at Cornell, one of which was a FYSA student. It was a fantastic experience. FYI.

Congrats, everyone. Even if you didn’t get accepted, great things are ahead! Make your own path.
