Cornell RD Class of 2016 Discussion Thread

i applied RD as a theatre major and am a legacy and otherwise a strong cornell candidate. a few weeks ago i received a letter from the admission office along the lines of “we’re so excited you applied and honored you’re considering cornell,” and then proceeded with “we don’t want to assume a family connection translates to perfect knowledge of cornell, blah blah” and then included some sheets if i wanted to contact specific admission officers, etc. and a bunch of admission statistic stuff. i have no idea what to make of this because i know that cornell takes legacy very seriously, so i’m not sure if this is at all related to my strength of candidacy. did any one else receive this letter? any ideas, conspiracies or similar stories?

I received that same letter last year and I was hopeful as well…It turns out I was accepted! Good luck!

My dad attended Cornell and I received that letter, too.

Just leave it blank or write “Not yet assigned”…I asked them the same question for the Non-filer statement.

@pch340 But imagine if you called and asked for your Cornell ID# and they gave it to you - wouldn’t that be a good sign of admission? I mean, why would they assign those who were rejected Cornell ID#s? I’m probably just over-analyzing everything though

okay where are youguys accessing this? Because I was an ED appliant, got deferred, andnow i can no longer access my portal!

the thing with the financial aid to-do list is curious but i think that cornell would be smarter than that, because they know that it would cause controversy.

I just tried to log in to see my to do list and received this error:
“The website selfservice.admissions.cornell.edu is unable to accept your credentials. You may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. If you continue to have problems please contact the website administrator.”
Hope this doesn’t mean something bad. YIKES!
It initially said my login was okay and that I’d be redirected, but then I was redirected to that ^^.
I hit the back arrow then got the same login ok, being redirected and was sent to my portal thingy.

OK! March 29 5:00 EST. Let’s do this!

I can’t even log into my portal anymore. Does anyone else have this issue?

There seems to be two different portals or something.
selfservice.admissions.cornell.edu works for me.

The portal works for me as well.

Is the portal working for all accepted students?

its weird. when i tried to log into my portal it wouldn’t let me, but when i went through the admissions website it had me already signed in.

for all of the people who have been getting “likely” letters or the financial aid thing, did you guys apply to two schools? and has anyone been asked to do h/eop?

I got the likely letter today, got rejected by MIT though, I only applied to the school on engineering, still waiting till March 29th to see all the schools I get into. I’m really pumped about getting into Cornell though, go big Red

Same thing happened with me, though I didn’t apply to the school of engineering, I’m not that strong of an applicant and I wasn’t trying to push my luck (maybe I can transfer in later?). I’m really excited about getting into Cornell though, totally wasn’t expecting a decision today.

Congrats to whoever got accepted already!

Ahh, all these decisions are making me anxious for my own although I’m really starting to think I got rejected. :/

I got the likely letter today too! I’m a white female mechanical engineering major, and i too got rejected from MIT, and I don’t even care!

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted! Be my friend if you decide to go.
Good luck to everyone else.

Today is a miserable day… Got rejected to MIT and seeing people get likely letters from Cornell. I am also a female applying to the engineering department at Cornell. I don’t know if this means a rejection. Do they send likely letters to international applicants?
However, congratulations to those who got the letter!
