Hi, there doesn’t seem to be a thread for this yet. Feel free to post stats, why you love cornell, etc.
great.
I switched from ED to RD at last minute so my app’s been completed for ever but I still can’t submit it…like, what if I think of something else to put on my app lol
My son applied for RD Engineering and just had an Alumni meeting/interview yesterday. Went well.
I have a couple of q’s. I would really prefer not to submit my 2nd sat subject score (math: 720, don’t judge me I had a very bad testing day), but I think I should adhere to their strong recommendations of 2 subjects. Would this hurt my application? Also, being an international student, how would the financial aid at Cornell be, as they are need aware? thanks for all the advice.
@iiRoMii I think you might as well send the subject SAT in. It’s not a spectacular grade, but it’s not super bad. As long as it’s over a 700 it shouldn’t raise any red flags. Not sure about international financial aid.
I agree to send in. It isn’t a bad score and will look worse not to have a second test.
I was deferred ED from UPenn. Will be applying to Cornell for the School of Human Ecology! Its my second choice and honestly might be my first now haha
My son will apply RD SHA.

@moms2of2 Especially as an Asian going in with mediocre stats, I’d be slightly worried. Engineering is one of the tougher things to shoot for at Cornell, meaning their admissions is arguably much more competitive than some of their other schools.
None of your extracurriculars seem to be anything special or related to engineering or even STEM besides the one hospital volunteer position that is a pretty common thing that people do. Applying RD is also not really doing anything to help.
Sorry for a negative post, I’m just pointing out the negatives that I see right away. However, I really like to think that college admissions are crud shoots, so anything is possible. I’d probably realistically think of a rejection, maybe a waitlist. Either way though, acceptance is still always possible. There are plenty of other factors in your application that I do not know about, and those things could be what pushes your application just over the edge!
Don’t give up hope – you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Good luck!
Thank you for reading and posting your comment @ Cornellian2000 Blessings always.
Btw, “WAIVED” for the recommendations means WAIVED ACCESS TO SEE WHAT THEY SUBMITTED.
Although great test scores are indeed great, you can both rest easy about mediocre scores, as they are not the end of the world for Cornell.
I was accepted into Cornell COE ED with a 32 on the ACT (32E, 35M, 31R, 30S), a 650 on Math II, a 660 on chemistry, and a 600 on physics.
And I am not a recruited athlete, urm, or anything “super” special like that. Living proof that there is still hope!
Thanks @Kbat11700, thanks for your post. Helpful (and hopeful) indeed (:(:
Blessings!
@Kbat11700 What did you write your essay about?
I chose to write about a moment for my common app. I wrote about a reflection and life lessons learned from a mildly emotional dillema I had when I was 12. A seemingly non important situation. It was humourous and light-hearted, but had (what I hope) was a mature reflection.
For my COE supplement, I wrote about how an experience with a current Cornell COE student proved to me that Cornell is something special.
So I feel like neither of my essays were about anything spectacular, but I believe they satisfied there purpose. Hope this helps!
Hi guys, recent CoE graduate here. Feel free to ask anything
I’d be happy to answer any questions as well! Current Cornell freshman in CoE here, so I can help with any college application/admissions questions anyone might have.
