*General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
I'm seriously really surprised that I got in - it definitely was my ECs and stuff that pulled me through, so if you have any questions or anything, feel free to ask! (Not that I'm an expert now because I got in though.. haha)

"i think a lot of ppl who dont get in on the waitlist get GT status. So if you can wait a year for Cornell that would be kool..."

This is very untrue. For ILR only 40 people accept the GT which means that not many people are offered GT to begin with. There are thousands of waitlistees and probably only a few hundred GTs, most of who probably weren't waitlisted to being with. I donno y someone would make that assumption...

Probably my best choice at this point. Cornell’s matter of fact attitude and I work perfectly, but I am concerned about the size of the school and classes and more impersonal nature than most of my other schools. I will probably deposit here while I wait on my waitlists. Waitlisted at Yale, Harvard, and Williams. Deferred and then rejected at Princeton.
Good luck to everyone!

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: i don't think i was accepted right away because my grades and sat scores weren't the absolute best (clearly...i've been reading this board for a while and never wanted to do a chances? thread because i figured i would be um, laughed at a tiny bit) - as yesterday was getting closer i was thinking i was out of my mind and definitely getting a flat out rejection.[/ul][/li]Other Factors: nope General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: seriously, when i read the letter the first time i assumed it was just a rejection - i saw the "this isn't what you wanted to hear" and the like and got sad - but then i re-read it and was all ".....YAY?!". people from my school, including my friends, that have better grades/sat scores than me were rejected, so it was a little crazy. congratulations to everyone that got accepted because you probably all deserve it, and i will most likely be seeing you in 2008. :]

I'm curious about the URM's who didn't get a likely letter... did it end up being true that all non-likely URM's didn't get in?
btw, after a half hour cryfest b/c of Yale, I'm kinda-pretty-actually very excited about cornell...

Essays: hm not my best. my engineering essay was written about 2 seconds before i submitted the app. the common app ones were ok though.

Hook (if any): don't think i have any..

Other Factors: got a likely letter
Extracurriculars: Varsity gymnastics team captain and this sport has basically been my entire life, so thats dedication for ya, but im not good enough to do it in college =(. um other stupid random ec's: newspaper, spanish club, nhs?? nothing special. i've also been teaching gymnastics for the past 4 years.
Why I think I was accepted/rejected/waitlisted: seriously no clue...maybe bc im a girl in engineering??
Other thoughts: i am ecstatic :) and i love my life

[/ul][/li]General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I was also selected for the Irwin and Joan Jacobs Scholarship. Congratulations to everyone that was accepted; I hope to see you in the fall!

Am I the only one that got my admissions decision like 1 1/2 weeks ago in the mail, before it was even on the internet?

They sent me a really small envelope, so I thought I got rejected, but I opened it and it said I got in. That was really surprising, I was like 80% sure I wasn't gonna get in.

Income Bracket: Middle Class, my parents make ~$100,000 in a good yr

Comments: I'm still amazed I got in. My SAT's were nothing special, the only thing that might have stuck out is my gpa, and essay which I thought was pretty good (i wrote it in a couple of hours). My cousin also got in and my friend is still waiting on her decision (she forgot to turn in her midyr report till a couple of weeks ago) so if we all get in and go, that'd be the coolest thing ever.
