Cornell received 37,673 applications this year, up over 3.5% from last year.

nice…

Looks like in 10 years, UC campuses will have 100,000 apps EACH.

HYPS acceptance rate will be like 1% in few years

“HYPS acceptance rate will be like 1% in few years”
Doubt their applicants will increase by a factor of 6-12x in a few years. Down to 4-5% i can believe, not 1%.

Anyways this is great news!

No, it’s not. More competition :p

Oh yeah you kids haven’t gotten in yet… good luck.

Wait, where did you hear about this?

The New York Times [online], which is collecting college application data, is the source.

haha burned with math skills. very nice

behappy7 - could you please provide a link to the data?

I googled - NY Times college application tally 2012 to find the data.

Meaning, http://thechoice.blogs.nytimes.com/
Some of those statistics are interesting.

Article from the Cornell Daily Sun:

[Early Decision Applications to Cornell Rise for Class of 2016 | The Cornell Daily Sun](http://www.cornelldailysun.com/section/news/content/2012/01/26/early-decision-applications-cornell-rise-class-2016)

The article mentions the total number of applications Cornell received for this year’s admissions cycle, and it confirms the NY Times blog.

Definitely has the makings of a strong admissions cycle [both ED and RD] for Cornell.

All of the Ivies except Princeton have reported their total applications for the Class of 2016. Only 3 [Cornell, Yale, and Dartmouth] have had increases this year in their total number of applicants. Cornell registered the largest absolute increase year-to-year, just slightly larger than Yale’s increase.

All Ivies have now disclosed their application numbers for the Class of 2016. Only Cornell, Yale, and Dartmouth showed increases over the prior year. Cornell had both the greatest increase in applications this year, as well as the largest number of total applications.

Won this competition in December over other top schools must have some impact to the increase:

How Cornell Beat Stanford (And Everybody Else) for NYC Tech Campus | WIRED;

I don’t think this was a very large reason - but it may certainly contribute to like say .5%

It was announced like 10 days before the application deadline; I don’t think it had any substantial impact on the increase this year…Maybe it will in coming years though :)

does anyone know when the regular admission decision will be released?

Rowan, decisions for regular decision applicants are released around April 1. Good luck!
