Cornell reflection

I was rejected from cornell engineering and although i wasn't supriused, i thought i would have at least been waitlisted. also, i applied via heop and still got rejected. here are my stats:

Sats: 1310/1950- 690M 620V 640W
Sat II: 680 M1 670 M2 630 Physics
Gpa: 90.57 weighted
Recs: Pretty good
Essays: Pretty good

ECS:
Chess club, Asian Club, Math Club
Volunteered at local elementry school, assisted teachers in coordinating activities for summer school chidlren.

Where do you think my application fell short? Of course its hard to pinpoint one area since my app is overall pretty weak but which area do you think kept me out?
thanks.

Are you serious? You were rejected. Forget it man.

BTW: Personally, I think it had to do w/ your weak SAT scores, GPA, and EC's.

Your Math SAT's are kind nof low for engineering. Your GPA, although I don't know your school/class rank, is pretty lower for Cornell standards. If you're not in the top 10% of your class, you're immediately at a disadvantage since about 90% of accepted engineering students are in the top 10% of their class. In your EC's/Volunteer work, one doesn't really see that you are a leader. Sorry :(.

Your SATs and especially SAT2s are just too low for engineering.

ok, my best friend erin is an extremely hard worker and, i think, very smart. she was rejected from cornell, and i know it was a long shot for her, but does it seem like she was really that far off to y'all?

GPA: UW 3.71, W 4.07
SAT: 760 W, 710 CR, 650 M ----> 2120 new, 1360 old
SAT II: 770 US Hist., 600 Lit. & Spanish -----> this may have been her
downfall, unfortunately she was sick the day she
took these two and didn't think to cancel her
scores; still, it's just one part of her application

SCHEDULE: always rigorous, more than 10 honors/AP classes
RANK: 52/444 (UW), 32/444 (W) -----> we go to a really competitive
school
ESSAYS: good/great
RECs: probably really good

ECs: Pres Model UN, Capt Varsity track, International Club VP, Braille Instititute volunteer, hospital volunteer- 150+ hours, Earth club member, youth group member, Peer Support (a peer counseling-type thing), babysitting for multiple families (around 10 hours a week), tutoring center for 3 years

I don't know, i think erin deserves a lot for working so hard. she doesn't use this site 'cause she's so darn busy doing all she does. anywho, i can't imagine how she wasn't a strong candidate for cornell. any thoughts to share would be helpful 'cause i'd like some insight.

Thanks!

I would say that she had a good shot. Not being in the top 10% might've hurt her a bit, but everything else looks great. GL to your friend :).

there you go...academics is a very important critereon for engineering...in fact the most critereon...because the course is very tough, and as good a person u may be, its ur academics thats numero uno when it comes to being admitted

You have to remember that the subject on the SATs that she excelled on doesn't really even count for our class! My writing was the highest too so I feel for her...but hey with those good of stats I'm sure she probably got into a high qaulity school.
