Cornell scenery experiences

to all of the current students at cornell, what were your experiences with the natural scenery and beauty around the campus? i loooooooove environmentally appealing and beautiful places, it's one of the main hooks that made me choose cornell over other schools.

if (HOPEFULLY!) i get in, im really going to take a good amount of my 4 years to get a full experience of the scenery around cornell. the gorges, the lakes, the forests, the rivers, the fields, the lawns, the starry skies (i can't wait to just lie down at night alone by a lake and stare up at the stars ><!!!)

so what are your experiences with the scenery on cornell's campus? what exciting things did you do? were you also excited about the nature around cornell?

i personally believe that when i run into hell week during my terms, im just going to take some time, go to a far away lake or forest, sit under a large tree that drops leaves or petals around the vicinity, and meditate myself into calmness..

or or even go to that same place and study for my exams! OR (like mentioned in another thread) jog around beautiful places while listening to music on my mp3 player in the early morning!

oh i can't wait!! (i hope i get accepted!!)

haha, sorry for my enthusiasm, but please share your experiences!

its awfully bright. everywhere is light!! i can't see teh stars clearly at all (though much better than where i came from, nyc)

Def the gorges during spring. Also just chillin out at night is really nice. There are also tons of gym classes and naturey things u can do with gym membership (such as forest yoga). Also sports n gym classes on the lake. The farms n gardens Cornell owns are great too. There's so so so many natural wonders at Cornell. It should be right at the top of ur list if ur looking for a place of natural beauty.

cornell is beautiful in spring and summer but not when we get snowstorms...

at least 2 prelims and 1 final will occur during snow :(

how do some of you deal with this? i mean...if i stay at the library to study for these i'll be surrounded by stressed kids...what are some good places to get away?!

the coffee shop in the borders at the ithaca mall was a really nice place to study in the winter...surprisingly there were never that many people and very few cornell students, if any. you just hop on the 34 bus behind RPCC and you go straight there, runs every half hour from RPCC and the mall so it works out well. it was my secret get away place during the year lol.

Hmm, well I do hope you get in then; one of my main reasons for choosing Cornell is it's beauty. My favorite experiences have involved the Arts Quad on the first week of Spring, the view of the trees across the thurston bridge gorge, the view of the gorge near the schwartz center, and there's also a patch of grass without any lights around it near chi psi near university ave and star-watching there is amazing.

ahhh I want to go back!!!

^ what you just said sounds SO appealing

i don't want to get TOO attached to cornell though, haha. i have 2 years, but in case i get rejected

..............it's razor time (OMG JK!!!! >>...<_<..><))

haha, but yeah, why isn't anyone else responding? jeez, are none of you taking advantage of cornell's beauty? would you rather wake up to street honks and air pollution (NYC? just kidding to those who attend city colleges ><)

share some more stories!! im sure there's so much inspiration to garner from the natural beauty. whenever i'm in a solitary state with quietness and awesome nature, i always get inspiration...

agh cornel!!!!!!!!! XD

you have two years? like you're going to be a junior?? take time to enjoy high school as much as you can. like 2 years is a long time, not to be discounted.

Just relaxing in the sun at the gorges during the first Semester with bunches of friends as the river slowly flows by n the waterfalls crash right next to u is ammmazing.

walk around Beebe lake. you may or may not fall in love. with someone. or something. ha

has anyone tried going by one of the lakes and just study during finals week instead of going into the library and feeling the intense pressure there? lol

Sure. But you won't get much work done.

I always appreciate the view from Collegetown's Eddy Gate, looking south towards the Six Mile Creek valley. Additionally, the inscription on Eddy Gate would always give me shivers.

the thing about this is that your fall semester final will usually involve bad/snowy weather and well it's highly unlikely you could do any work outside...

during the spring finals it is possible but u can never predict the ithaca weather!
