Cornell Sheldon Court Experience

Hi guys,

I'm a sophomore transfer student in the ILR school. I did not get a spot in west campus, which was my first choice. Instead, I was placed in a double in sheldon court.

Can anyone describe their experience as a transfer student or even as a continuing student in sheldon court. I'm afraid, sheldon court is isolated from the other transfers and sophomore community

thanks!

You’ll be fine in terms of location. Instead, maybe worry about joining club activities because people tend to get a lot less open socially after their first semester as freshmen here.

Sheldon Court tends to have a few transfers on each floor. It’s definitely not isolated since you’re in the center of Collegetown and a fairly short distance from West Campus. I lived there this past year and found it comfortable for the most part. My only problems with the building were that there was always a lack of lounge area (especially at night), and only one television in the whole place. People in the building also weren’t terribly interactive socially.

If noise bothers you, living on the street side of the building may also be problematic on certain nights.

Thanks for responding guys! Do the sheldon kids hang out with kids in cascadilla? Is it easy for transfers to hang out with the rest of the students in sheldon, or are the other students not interested?

I’m just really worried about the social experience in sheldon!

Almost everyone tends to stick in their own buildings. Sheldon people can access Cascadilla and vice versa, but I only ever went to Cascadilla to see a friend, use a television or maybe attend the rare event.

Your social experience is what you make of it. Whether people connect with you or not is another story. Most of the campus is Americans, after all.

Do the people in Sheldon stick to themselves, like are doors closed and people stay in their rooms? Or is the dorm social with events etc?
