Cornell soccer team

How hard is it to get in Cornell's soccer team? How competitive is the team? I come from Romania (where football/soccer is the king) and I'm interested in playing varsity soccer.

Team plays American Division I (as do all Ivy teams in all sports.) How do you stack up in Romania? Are you one of the best players in your area? Could you come close to playing at the Liga 2 level? It's hard to assess without any competition against US players, but if you are very good, you should certainly try out.

email the coach u can find the email at bigredcornell.com and look for the soccer team

cataxxx i'm half Romanian...my dad is from Bucharest

haha just felt a connection so i had to get that out there.

I would encourage you to contact the coach by email (or phone) and describe your experiences and skills to him. (bs38@cornell.edu) It would also probably be helpful if you could provide him with a video of you playing. If he's interested, he will probably encourage you to try out with the team this August.

If the varsity option doesn't work out, you can always play for the Cornell United, which is a club soccer team. They travel and play against other colleges in the area, but don't have varsity status. Email Steve Fenty, sft33@cornell.edu, to find out more about the United. You might be able to make the varsity team after a couple of years on the club team.

unfortunately, i don't think this is possible. Division I schools don't have "tryouts"...you must be recruited, although i think it is worth a shot to see if the coach will allow you to walk on....keep in mind, a varsity sport requires one to be at school 1-2 weeks in advance for pre-season training that includes a lot of requirements with running (timed 40m, mile, 2 mile, jumping, fitness, etc.) Practices are very rigorous and traveling for away games takes a lot of time...GOOD LUCK!!
