What is the social life there? Is there real partying or is everything academically based? And are there a lot of attractive people?

"Everything academically based"

HA

Anyone tell me what a typical weekend is like and what there is to do?

how can you define "typical" for a group of 20,000 students that hail from all 50 states, hundreds of international countries, and posess thousands of varied interests?

^^^ What he said.

Well, if youre interested in getting wasted everynight, im sure you'll have your chances just like you would at any school

Ok...great thanks for helping.
glad to know you either dont come out of your dorm room on weekends OR
you are still in HS and maybe a little nurvous about you not wanting to drink in college. That said, I would like to know what a typical weekend may bring. Is it frat partys thurs-sun? Is there a big bar scene? Honestly, if you don't have any info or you are just mad at the world, dont respond. But, I am on a site not looking for some BS answer about if im interested in getting wasted everynight.
Is everyone this socialy retarded at Cornell?

hahaha since I love ur post u just made i'll help. If u r into the frat scene they have thursday night alright parties/bar nights and then really good open parties on Friday and Saturday night. They also have Monday Night Football nights. The frats are reallllly fun if ur into that typa thing. Frats are where ull meet lots of super social and normal people (not that they aren't other places...but I mean it's the one place ur not gonna meet the weird ppl who stay in their rooms all day n stuff). It's a really fun night life and it's really social and there are a ton of cool people that go out. You just get a bunch of friends, pregame, then go out and have a great time at the frats. So yes, there is a great social life. Work hard, party harder.

This goes with the attractive people thing...if u go to a good frat there will be many attractive people. Also there are so many people here that altho the percentage of attractive people wouldn't be as large as a state school there are just sooo many people that there are many attractive people among them.

So yes u can have a life at Cornell and many people have great social lives. But of course that is while u keep up with ur work which is definitely rigorous.

Gomestar said it best. If you're looking to get wasted every night, you can. The frat scene is big. Looking to hit the bars on the weekends? The bar scene is big too. House parties? Of course!

That type of social event not your thing? Rather play World of Warcraft with a bunch of friends? Sit around and discuss quantum physics? Sure.

Cornell is an incredibly large, and incredibly diverse place. You will find just about any type of social scene you're looking for, and it's almost always available to you in numbers as large as you'd ever want.

That's why it's so difficult to get good grades; for the most part, the coursework isn't too difficult, it's just that there are more distractions than you can imagine, and you're bound to find a few that pique your interest.

yea i live locally and have been frequenting frats since older friends/neighbors have gone to cornell

im applying this year

the frats are definitely fun fridaynight and saturday night party jumping too

to be honest too many kids drink and drive now

thanks for the info nice to know there are normal people out in ithaca
would you say its a good idea to get a fake or is it not really nec?

Not really nec. Go to frats for your booze the first couple of years and then hit the bars the last two. You'll be old enough (hopefully) by then anyway.

yea you dont really need a fake unless you plan to be the one buhying beer

not too many kids go to bars

i would disagree with the above two people.. while the bar scene is not big for most freshman, it can be second semester if you join greek life. frat parties get boring so it is nice to have the option to go to bars. also, a lot of the more social people will be out at the bars any night of the week. it is also nice to have an id just so that you can get drinks at restaurants.

you need a pretty good id to get into a few of the cooler bars in collegetown but restaurants and a few of the bars arent hard. i would avoid buying liquor with a fake id at most places.

i would also avoid getting an out of state fake since many restaurants and stores require an instate id for alcohol

since students come from all over the country, its definately not necessary to have an instate fake.. they know all of the ids. It is actually considered very risky to have an instate unless it is perfect. Cali, NY, Mass, Delaware are some of the most common IDs. I would avoid getting an Alabama id unless you speak with an accent, etc. It is better to have a real id fo a friend who is 21 that may not exactly look like you than have a true fake sometimes.

If you're still nervous about drinking, you don't really have to worry about it. It's not like those "peer pressure" commercials here. If you don't want to no one's going to care. But start off slow and know your limits if you do begin drinking. And even if you don't like to get drunk but you still drink for a little buzz (like me), pretending you're drunk every so often during the night is really fun.

With that said, frat parties... kind of suck. I'm not gonna lie. I love dancing, and that's why I HATE frat parties. It's just bad beer (drink some good stuff before-hand if you're going to drink) and random grinding to bad bad BAD music. Architect parties are where it's at. I'm an arts&sci student but the architect parties are ballin. Great dancing, great people... the booze is still bad but what can you do.

Other than parties, there is PLENTY of stuff to do. Anything you can imagine goes on during the weekend. Tammany Niteclub in Risley is awesome when theres stuff happening.

The girls here. Well, they're alright if you haven't been exposed to anything else. But I went to JMU during fall break and oh my freaking god we are deprived of attractive women here at Cornell. Though, our ladies are more intelligent so it works out alright.

Without being to vulgar....

Are the girls the relationship type or the hookup type?

The thing about smart girls is that they are commited, and that sometimes is reflected in their guy habits....

One quick one
I have some older friends who go to state schools who say that partying in the 1st year dorms is pretty common where they go to school, anything like that happen at cornell or are the RA's pretty strict?

Cornell Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!
