Hi everyone, I’m currently a freshmen in UC Berkeley. I know I should wait a bit prior to deciding to transfer to another school, but just in case my mood toward Cal turn even bitter from huge class size to lengthy wait time just about everything. I’m thinking about transferring to Cornell next fall (2017) as a sophomore. Any tips on getting letters of recommendations and successful transfer.
@dianawayne If you don’t mind me asking, what is it about Berkeley you don’t like?
Hey everyone! Applying for fall 2017 to the ILR School. I’ve actually been taking college classes that fit the ILR school’s themes in hopes that it will be easier for them to admit me (like business ethics), the ILR school has been my dream school since the high school but my grades were too low. Does anyone know how the ILR school looks at current college curriculum?
@jonesby well, for starter the huge class size. I don’t really feel engage in the classroom, and despite my best efforts to raise my hands and answer questions, the professor does not seem to teach with a personality. He doesn’t try to ask what people’s names are nor does he try to even have meaningful extension of student’s answer/thoughts. It kind of feel a bit robotic at times. Office hours are very slim, about one hour a week (you missed it you miss it) and there seem to be a long line every time outside of the teacher’s office. beyond simple classrooms and teachers, registering classes online is a nightmare as classes fill up very fast, and once you’re enrolled in your classes; it is very difficult to change around without losing your seat that you already enrolled. Financial and administration assistance tends to be very slow, an average on the phone or in the office can take up to a hour. Over all I just find it very difficult to navigate through the college.
@dianawayne Well I’m very sorry to hear that. I’m definitely not into the idea of a huge state school. I just had coffee with my friend who goes to Cornell and he said he’s had the chance to talk with professors for hours on end after class and during office hours. ~14,000 seems like just the right size.
Hey everyone! This is my first post on CC so I might as well tell my story.
Im a typical high school slacker. 80 overall GPA, good test scores 28 ACT, 2000 SAT. I played 3 sports all four years of high school and was a very high level diver. Nothing like an Indiana, Penn state level, but I can easily dive for a D3 school and do very well. So, all in all, I was an underachiever in high school and rather than compromising, I chose to attend a community college for 2, 3 or 4 semesters.
So far I have liked my CC and done well. 3.60 GPA in high level classes: Calc 2, Inorganic, Organic chem Biology classes ect. I re-took my ACT and got a 30, I did very well in everything other than english, I scored a 22 on that section.
Im now in my third semester of college and I have my top choice: Cornell. I want to know my chances of getting in, or if i’m completely off the mark by applying. My EC’s are solid probably an 8/10 in my mind. 40 hour a week job, 2 sport athlete, semi professional MMA fighter, I mentor a kids class at my local gym too. Lastly, I’m a chess national master ranked within the top 300 players in the USA. On my application, I go into detail.
Honestly, I never applied to college other than my CC. I dont know what to expect. If im crazy for thinking I can get into Cornell, please tell me. The other schools I’m applying to are: Baylor, BU, Claremont McKenna, Cornell, Emory, Middlebury and William and Mary.
Someone please tell me if i’m crazy for thinking I have a chance.
@dianawayne Cornell is the same way. Have you looked into smaller schools?
I’m applying SP17 as well. I’m a sophomore right now, but as of January 2017 I’ll have junior standing (at my current school - B1G). CAS, Government.
I have some personal experiences, and academic, that I believe should make a strong and persuasive case for me…best of luck to you all.
Does anyone know when we hear back from Cornell? I’m guessing late November early December?
It is around late November, I think. They are doing rolling admission
@hf1234 May I ask after u submitted the application, how long after u received the applicant ID from them to check ur application status? thx
@Ranyixin ah okay, and i just received mine today! which major did you apply to?
Same here! I just got mine today. I applied to human development.
@hf1234 Same here! I just got mine today. I applied to human development. (for my last comment, I forgot to @ you)
I applied to Business School of Hotel Administration for 2017 spring transfer.
my application status is just completed and not stating
“Your materials have been received. Your application has been forwarded to the admissions staff for review.”
@Ram30823 wow that’s quick! I’m just sent in my mid-term report so hopefully my application gets reviewed soon. best of luck to you; if you don’t mind me asking, which school are you applying from?
I just got an email asking for my midterm report, but my one professor won’t have grades until next Tuesday. I submitted my application in August, hopefully it won’t cause too much of a set back in the admission decision. Anyone else in the same boat?
@jonesby you’ll be fine, I wouldn’t worry too much about it! on the website, they mentioned it was acceptable to hand in the midterm report a little later than the rest of your application.
@jonesby
I was in similar situation. I talked with professor after class several time and he told me that he will give mid-term grade based on my HW, attendance, and participation, which I did a lot.
Also, I agree with @hf1234 that Cornell confirmed me several time that supplement material, such as Midterm and TOEFL, is okay to be delivered little late.
my application is complete and just updated to say that it’s being forwarded to the admissions team!
