Cornell Spring Transfer for '11

<p>Hey guys,</p>

<p>I am in a sticky situation and I don't know what to do. I currently go to Drexel University, enrolled in the 5 year/3 co-op engineering program.
I just finished my second year and will be entering my third year (pre-junior). I am planning on transferring to junior standing at Cornell. </p>

<p>I feel like my stats are strong but I don't know whether I should apply as a spring transfer or wait and apply in fall. Also, can I apply for spring and if I get rejected, apply again in the fall?</p>

<p>My stats are:</p>

<p>-Major: Chemical Engineering
-College GPA: 3.81
-Been an honors student and on the dean's list since '08
-Worked as a product development engineer co-op for six months at Synthes Spine designing spinal implants
-EC's: Undergraduate research, co-founder of MUN, UNA-USA, Engineers without borders, Peer mentor and leader at the learning center and tutoring.</p>

<p>Basically what I'm asking is, will my application be harmed if I apply in the spring and later again in the fall (if I get rejected), is that even allowed?</p>

yes .</p>

<p>^ no. the student will be applying for senior standing, which is not allowed. you could apply for spring and if you get rejected take a semester off while you apply again, but you can’t keep taking classes and getting credits and then apply.</p>

<p>most colleges have similar policy. In fact, I can’t think of any top program that accepts senior standing applicant.</p>

<p>actually ramezb, i’m sorry but I’m pretty sure Cornell’s College of Engineering doesn’t take Spring Transfers</p>

<p>^ they just started with spring '10. it’s even harder to transfer in the spring though, so best of luck</p>

<p>I just want to clarify that since I’m on the quarter system, if I apply in the spring I’ll probably be a second semester sophomore and if I apply in the fall I’ll be a junior so I don’t have to worry about senior standing (a lot of my credits won’t transfer when I switch from quarter to semester).</p>

<p>So it’s great news that I can apply in the spring even though my chances are slim but will it harm my fall application in any way if I don’t get in? Is there a possibility that they won’t accept me in the fall because I applied in the spring and got rejected? If it will, I’m not ready to take that risk and would rather wait until the fall.</p>

<p>do you know how many semester credits you have? it won’t harm your fall app if you apply in spring (i was a reapplicant); just make sure that you change things the second time to show growth, etc.</p>

<p>I don’t know how many semester credits I have, but I do know that 90 semester credits (max) is around 135 quarter credits. If I transfer in the fall, I’ll be around 110-115 quarter credits. </p>

<p>I just called Cornell engineering admissions and they don’t accept spring transfers, so I guess I’m just going to have to wait until the fall.</p>

<p>In the meantime, I’ll be spending time on CC religiously so I’ll be best prepared once the applications open up.</p>

<p>hmm that’s weird; maybe they were just trying it out last spring then lol because there were definitely like 2 or 3 engineering transfers. <em>shrug</em> ok, good luck</p>
