Cornell summer?

how is it?

I'm a parent. Both kids did Cornell summer college and really enjoyed it. Great academics & high level discussions in a small, college town. Cornell is one of the oldest programs for high schoolers, so administratively, they're excellent. But, if you prefer the city life, look into the programs at Harvard and Brown.

All of these programs are expensive, and Cornell is no different -- they're big money makers for the colleges. However, please note that not all classes are taught by full time professors of that college. Summer is a time when academics do a sabbatical or research project at a different college, so a teacher at xx program could be from another college or a post-doc. But, Cornell does id which profs teach which classes in the program guide.

thanks, and does it help when applying to cornell?

I heard that it does, but it doesn't mean you will get accepted. Some people got rejected from ED this year and they attended the program.
I'm applying this year, are you?

I took a class this past summer there, if you have any questions feel free to ask!

yeah im applying, should i apply for the 3 week or 6 week program?

It depends on how much you can pay and if they will give you enough fin aid.
I want to go for the 6 week Engineering program , but it costs 8k and my family can at most pay 2k. lol
So it depends on fin aid and money.
So if it's not a problem, then 6 weeks!

Both Harvard and Brown do offer financial aid for qualifying high school students to their respective summer programs.

My son completed the Cornell dual explorations program in law last summer. He thoroughly enjoyed Cornell and met a lot of great people. It was expensive and a lot of work, though. It did help him get accepted early decision to Cornell and many who were there last summer were also accepted. In my opinion (and his) it was worth the money and effort. Good luck to you--which classes are you considering taking?

I'm considering to take the Business course.

I think you'll enjoy it--it is a very well-run program.

My dd went last summer. She took the Mind, Body and Health class with a world renown researcher in anorexia and body image. She loved it but the 3 week class moves really fast.

Yes and no. Yes, it helps you write a Why Cornell essay since you've been there done that. But, will it make up for a weak transcript, no. For example, one kid in my son's class attended summer sessions at Cornell on two successive summers, was a triple legacy (both parents, and gradparent), but was deferred ED and rejected RD.

Warning to the kids on this forum....attending any summer college starts your college transcripts, and ethically you MUST report any grades earned when you apply to college.

i see, but being from a third world country highly increases my chances, am i right?

How does the 4 week dual explorations program work if both classes are 3 weeks long?

Also: How competitive is admission? (3.5GPA 204PSATs) Would I have trouble?

admissions is not that competitive if you apply early. They sold out last year.

Yes, all colleges like internationals.

Has anyone gone and can comment on the work load, and what there is recreationally to do?

Do you get a grade at the end of the course?

PShap91 - I have no doubts that if you apply you will get in, what bluebayou said about applying early probably does count but I applied a week before the deadline last year and was still accepted.

Also, what to do for recreation really depends on you.

You do get a grade, as far as I know.

bluebayou, what did your kids take at cornell summer programs?
