Cornell Supplement Essay

I need some serious help with this.

Describe your intellectual interests, their evolution, and what makes them exciting to you. Tell us how you will utilize the academic programs in the College of Arts and Sciences to further explore your interests, intended major, or field of study.

I mean it's so uncreative. I love writing and I love to be creative, but I simply don't know how to write this essay topic. I mean the only intellectual interest I can think of is...writing. That's honestly about it. Help?!

haha welcome to everyone else's world, including mine.

good luck, i'm doing the same. sry i can't be of much help

i'm having trouble with this too

urgh me too...

I've been having trouble with this question as well...
I wonder if the essay really needs to connect to a whole variety of intellectual interests...
Will it be okay if I just focus on one and how that evolved??

I talked about my two major interests, their evolution and how they have given rise to other interests, and then had a (very brief) paragraph about why Cornell would be a great place to explore all of these things.

I feel like showing your passion for a particular subject is always better than being surface-level about a myriad of things. But if you can draw in one or two other interests (maybe inspired by your main intellectual pursuit?), it shows a more multi-dimensional picture of who you are.

FAJISTE - I'd be so tempted to write a story and be like, "This is who I am." The storyteller, the sentence-creator, the IDEAL CORNELL APPLICANT! I want to craft my phrases on your campus!

Fajiste, writing would be a great intellectual interest to write about. You could tie in how Cornell offers those freshmen writing seminars, which obviously show that they value writing skills in a student.

Just write about how your love for writing carried you through life, and ultimately brought you to cornell

err what if our intellectual interests didnt really "evolve"? i just became interested in econ recently during my senior year

Well thanks for the support! I finished my essay and I must say it came out exactly how I wanted. =P

With a 1390, lots of EC's and a 94.5 average you think I have a shot? (considering I have good essays)

your SAT score seems low for cornell....(and im looking at it out of 1600)

i believe that's actually a little above the middle 25-75 percentile range they give you (if that even means anything)

It's a 760 math, 630 reading. Though my reading isn't too high and I did write about entering CAS with an English major in mind, I have won lots of awards in writing and English and I hope they overlook my semi-low reading score. I believe I have a good chance. My commonapp essay is a masterpiece.
