Cornell Transfer 2013

I am a chemical engineering major sophomore in UIUC. I want to transfer to Cornell chemical engineering for Fall of 2013. Should I prepare recommendation letters from my instructors?
My current GPA is 3.87. I don't know if I am at a good standing or not.

I already finished Calculus sequences, Calculus based Physics sequences (mechanics, electricity and magnetism, quantum), and General Chem and organic chemistry first sem.

Is it really competitive to transfer to Cornell's ChemE?

Obviously, transferring to Cornell is difficult, but you look competitive; is there a reason why you want to transfer to Cornell? UIUC is a fantastic school–and though it is a bit in the middle of nowhere, so is Cornell.

Also, it’s always more difficult to adjust to a new campus as a junior. It’s harder to break in to established friend groups, you lose any start with research or extracurricular and clubs and so on. Again, it’s very possible to fit in fine, but it’s probably not as easy as a freshman or sophomore.

I agree, you need a very legitimate reason for transferring, and be able to back that up with your essays and application. Especially since UIUC is such a good school.

Have you fulfilled all the course requirements for Cornell Engineering though? The admissions department puts a lot more stock in candidates that have those fulfilled.

Here is the link, if you don’t have it already: [Cornell Engineering: Requirements](http://www.engineering.cornell.edu/admissions/undergraduate/apply/transfer/requirements.cfm#CP_JUMP_8506)

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your suggestions.

I just looked up the chemical engineering requirements:

Sophomore Standing…Junior Standing
Math 1910 & 1920…Math 2930 & 2940
CS 1110 or 1112…ENGRD 2190
Chem 2090 or 2080…Chem 2900, 3890, & 3900
Phys 1112…CHEME 3230
2 First-Year Writing Seminars…Phys 2213
…2 Liberal Studies Courses …Biology Elective

I’m a sophomore now in UIUC, and I want to transfer for next Fall. Should I just fulfill sophomore standing or both? Is it acceptable to not fulfill some courses. Since in UIUC, we are not allow to take physical chemistry courses until junior year.
