Cornell Transfer Admits

Have you guys sent in your responses to Cornell yet? They were supposedly due 6/1 for a guarenteed spot in the university, but are we allowed to send them in after that date?

Has anyone else not even heard yet?? S hasn't (Engineering), although I think he's choosing a different school anyway. Kind of annoying not to hear yet, though, with other schools' reply deadlines passing like flies. His app was in plenty early, too.

what school is he choosing over cornell? just curious

I haven't heard yet too (also engineering). They said its delaying because I was rejected from my first choice major and they forwarded it to my second chioice department for review. Their disregard for deadlines is so annoying, I am tempted to click "Withdraw my application" button each time I see my decision haven't made yet.

ten20j, were you accepted also?
I was told that you can send in the deposite 2 weeks after you have received the financial aid information, so don't worry too much.

CNCL, yes I was accepted (fortunately). However I am facing a ridiculous amount of credit-loss if I go. They are saying that I would be starting at the first semester sophomore level. Apparently they are hesitant on giving me credit for freshmen-level math courses. I don't understand why they are so stingy about these things, especially since I am coming from a (supposedly) peer institution. I am awaiting a tentative credit award before I decide if I should go.

jmmom and NJCCstudent,

yes, Cornell Engineering is notifying their applicants ridiculously late. I only heard very recently. It is very annoying.

Is that what it says in the acceptance letter? Are you a sophomore at your previous school? If so I think there may be an error somewhere because my impression from them was, as long as it's somewhat equivalent to a class they have at Cornell, it will get transferred. Did you remember to submit a course description along with the application? Maybe they didn't get it thus had no clue what the class was about? I asked for a credit evaluation too but was told it's not possible until around first/second week of June.

College of Engineering may have a more rigid requirement, especially with math classes.

When did you hear? I thought they are quite on time this year especially with their new admissions staff in place because I heard around the 23rd or so of May.

CNCL:

I just completed sophomore year at my current school, and would prefer not to repeat it at Cornell. With my application I included a list of all the courses I have taken and attached their respective course descriptions which list the topics covered and the number of hours met per week. I am fairly certain that they've recieved this, and are just not giving enough respect to my courseload. But I don't understand why they would even accept me if I have apparently failed so horribly to meet their criteria as a rising junior.

I got my acceptance sometime last week, which may have been rather timely for Cornell Engineering, but it is still quite late for transfers in general.

I would read over the course descriptions of those required math classes at Cornell, i.e., 191/192/293/294 and see if there is much difference in the topics covered; I am sure you will have a case to argue if they aren't all that different. Did you ask them about this? This may very well be a mistake. Also try write to Meredith and see if that will help.

I have read over the course descriptions, and I believe I've satisfied all the topics with the exception of partial differential equations, one of the topics in Math 293. I would not mind if I get credit for all but one course. However, I recieved an email from the ECE student services office and they were not even certain I would be awarded Math 191 from a class I took that met for 5 hours a week and covered all the material in 191 (and more). If this first-level math course is so uncertain, it would be scary to think what they will do for my higher-level ECE courses. Perhaps I will try to query Meredith. Thanks for your help.

No problem though I'm not sure if I helped. Did it say in your acceptance letter that you would start as a sophomore? I am somewhat worried now that I heard this, I will probably email them again asking for a credit evaluation before I make a decision.

In the acceptance letter it did not mention anything about my credit standing. However, I received an email and a second letter from Mark Spencer stating: "Your major department has determined that you would begin your engineering program at the first semester sophomore level." I would imagine that if you got the same email, stating that you would begin at the first semester junior level, you would in all likelihood be set.

I'm really interested in CALS. I plan on applying for next fall and would appreciate it if yall could give me an idea of your GPAs, SATs, etc...stuff that you think got you in. I either need a rude awakening or some encouragement and I think those that have just been admitted could help me out alot. Thanks.

Ok sorry for the stupid question which has probably been answered countless times, but what does CALS mean?

College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, I believe...lol...I guess I should know but I don't feel like going to look it up for sure.

haha that's ok...better than I could have done
