west, west, west! beds in the west campus system have already been reserved by housing specifically for transfer students. so if you want to be with other transfers, I highly suggest West. As a transfer myself, I'll be there. Personally, I'm a fan of the dining system. We'll have our own dining hall. Awesome!

I only digress if the other themed houses appeal to you (like Ujaama, etc.) You'll find descriptions for those online or in the packet Cornell sent out.

Did you guys submit the housing application online? If so, I can't figure out how to request the West Campus Housing. There is only one section that asks if you want to live in a themed community. Does anyone know how to request on the online application the West Campus House System as the number one choice?

I spoke with housing a few weeks ago and they said that they haven't updated the site yet because they haven't received information about transfer students (they still have me classified online as a freshman.) Still, they said that it would be OK to fill out the online application.

The housing system on West is apparently a themed community according to their online system. You have to first select that you wish to live in a themed community and then from there you'll be able to select one of the west campus houses from the drop-down menu (Hans Bethe, Alice Cooke, etc.) with the exception of William Keeton and House 5 (they're probably missing from the list because they're the newest.) Personally I wrote in my preference for Keeton in the space where you're allowed to write below the drop-down menu.

Hopefully they'll streamline the process over the next few weeks...so y'all could wait I suppose, or simply fill out the paper application (which isn't as detailed as the online application) that they sent with your packet.

I'm choosing West, but I'm not sure which house. I'm a bit annoyed with the obligatory west campus meal plan. Apparently west campus has the worst food.

I've heard this more than once on this website. Apparently Appel (North) has the best food, but it's a really long walk from west, plus I don't even think the west meal plan covers it. :(

I'm undecided between Bethe and the newer houses.

Does anyone know if transfers can live in the gothics?

“The housing system on West is apparently a themed community according to their online system.”

The West campus system is themed insofar is it is an “intellectual community.” “Themed communities,” however, are JAM, Ecology House, etc.

Cornell is consistently ranked–by its students–among the best campus dinning programs in the country. There is no such thing as bad food on campus, thankfully. But, and here’s the catch, as a student who eats pretty much the same food in the same hall for months on end, campus food sucks. So as far as quality goes, Cornell is on top–it’s in the repetition that dinning falls down.
