Cornell Transfer Letter (PTK)

Hi, I was just wandering if anybody else that was a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)received a letter from Cornell in Oct. 2008 telling you about their transfer process and hoping that you consider them as one of your choices. Prior to receiving the letter from Cornell, I never thought about applying their because I never saw myself as an Ivy League student or even as an elite school student. Do you think that since the contacted me that this gives me a better shot at being accepted as a fall 2009 transfer student or do they just send thousands of these letters out a year?

Way to collect an easy 70 bucks , tell everyone they are competitive

Your best shot would be to contact admissions and tell them you are a PTK scholar and find out if they have any special programs/partnerships/scholarships that would apply to a student such as yourself.

Just for future reference for other CC users, I received about 3 or 4 letters from Cornell asking me to consider them as I think about my transfer process. Well, I applied and was accepted! So, if you ever get these same letters from them, then you probably have a good shot at getting in.

congrats, are you going? I get a lot of letters from colleges through PTK but I haven’t applied to any of them.

Thanks, ThatPoshGirl! Yep i will be attending Cornell in the Fall 09 so hopefully it will be pretty fun; i’m really looking forward to it. You should definitely consider applying to schools that send you stuff especially if you would like to go there b/c you’ll probably have a better shot at getting in. And its also better to apply and get reject than to never have applied and also wonder if you could have been accepted.

Every single Phi Theta Kappa member gets these mailings. You’ll also get a “preferred application” down the road.

lawls at ixjunitx. but i got those all the time as a PTK member. schools still have to recruit their applicants, so they recruit from the members of PTK, because if youre in PTK, you probably have a shot at cornell anyway.

I also got a Cornell letter in September '08 — and I got another letter today- my rejection letter!!! I NEVER thought to apply there, and I really don’t get why they are recruiting like that. I mean, they must gets TONS of applications being Ivy League without going out and searching for people. Well, I gave it my best shot, I guess I made it pretty far into the process and now I KNOW my answer- I never could’ve gone through life wondering IF I maybe could’ve gotten in if I hadn’t applied!!!

pitbull, I’ve read your posts and I’m sorry you didn’t make cornell but this year was extremely competitive. Cornell had a high transfer pool because of the change in FA and top schools are known for better FA than some okay private univ.'s. don’t be down on yourself. You can still go to a top law school. Good luck and see you at yale lol

Thanks, mach2, I plan to study my butt off and hopefully I WILL get into Yale Law!!!

law schools only care about Lsats, doesnt matter where your BAs from

I also received the letter, so I feel I should inform you that it was sent from Cornell College (in Iowa), not Cornell University.

A bit misleading, haha.

My Cornell letter was from the ILR school in Ithaca. I applied there and was rejected- it was the Cornell University in NY. I also did get literature from the Cornell College in Iowa (and I was interested about the name so I looked into it and the 2 Cornell’s were cousins).
