Cornell Transfer requirements

Hi,
My name is Debarshi Kundu and I am attempting to transfer to Cornell for the 2017-2018 school year. I am currently a freshman student at UT Dallas, and (If accepted) I will be a sophomore at Cornell (hopefully). However, Cornell has some course requirements that I am worried about. For example, I am not so sure that UT Dallas has any course that can substitute for the 2 First year writing seminars. Also, Cs1110 at cornell is intro to computing using Python, however UT Dallas has no course involving the Python programming language. Furthermore, Engrd 2110 is Object Oriented Programming and Data Structures at Cornell, however UT Dallas’s Data structures course has some prerequisites which make it unable for me to complete that course as a freshman. What should I do? Does this mean I can’t transfer to Cornell? :’(

Thanks,

Debarshi Kundu

  • xferring "upward", u almost always loose @least a half to a full semester if not more but some schools incl. cornell do give u options if u've got game (i should say "serious game"), i.e. taking tests to waive courses. not that these tests are super hard, if u don't pass these tests convincingly, u won't make (survive) it the next level courses!
  • top schools rarely take xferring "freshman" & most are after 2 yrs.
  • level of competitions: a big jump fr utdallas to cornell. it's wise to repeat some of the courses to make sure one really has all the fundamentals and foundations down solidly. let's face it (i know utaustin but i don't know utdallas), even the course covers the same materials @both schools, i'm guessing...it'll be a lot harder @cornell than utdallas say to get the same grade! yes, u can xfer but u'll loose some time. if cornell's really your dream school, then u just have to bite the bullet & complete your 4-yr degree say in 5 yrs total. good luck!
