Looking at everyone getting into cornell is soo cool. I just really want the same experience since Cornell is like my top choice for college, and I am a junior so I do have the time.
School: I go to one of the top schools in my state
Want to apply to Cornell AAP
GPA: 3.877 UW, 4.1+ W (my school has not given me my W GPA yet so I’m just guessing, my weighted GPA will be given to me in May.)
Classes: Will take 10 APs by the end of my senior year of High School.
SAT: 1470 (took it before junior year) and I am taking it again in May becuase I think I can get 1500+ with some prep
Demographics: Asian female
ECs: I’m on the journalism team for my school (all 4 years)
I do math club and environment club, and am the president for both.
I also compete in some of the common conferences, like TSA and FBLA which are just competitive event clubs at my school. I have about 10 awards from these.
I have done an internship before with a really small architecture firm in the city where I live in. It wasn’t major, I just went to the company on Monday and Friday and did some simple accounting work and I was not paid for it. I just recently stopped going because it was a little stressful for me.
I did some research outside of school and competed in this conference and I got a few awards.
I also volunteer a lot for a church and I do some work with elementary school students.
Summer: I applied for the Cornell Architecture summer program and I got in. I think that I will be attending (haven’t fully paid for anything yet, but just think so).
Income bracket: More than $200,000 per year, so won’t receive fin aid.
Sorry for the long post! I just really hope that any of you can give me some tips for my architecture school portfolio, and chance me. Thanks!
Shoutout to my atlanta folk! i showed this to my friends and they wanted me to include this
Also, adding on to my Ecs: the work that i do with elementary school students is partially based off of family. I help students with special needs get better accustomed to their lives in school and this is done with intensive training with just basic needs. It’s something that I am super passionate about.
@18butterflies, You have a good foundation for Cornell admissions as a whole. (I’m assuming you’re an American citizen.)
Admissions to the bachelor’s of architecture program is highly selective. I don’t know the actual percentage but it’s considerably lower than Cornell’s overall admission rate. Your portfolio and your interview will carry great weight in the admissions decision.
Attending Cornell’s summer program will help in understanding what a career in architecture is all about. It will not necessarily lead to preferential status in AAP admissions, but will provide insight into various elements of your application such as your portfolio, essays and interview.
I would also suggest that over the summer you try to expand your internship at the small firm in your city to gain exposure to other aspects of architecture. This is a plus that will set you apart from other applicants.
In any event, make sure to have a balanced list of reach/match/safety. College Confidential’s Architecture Major forum is a good place to ask questions about how to formulate your list.
@18butterflies, with any top schools, esp. the Ivies, I’ve seen applicants in Naviance get denied, even with near perfect SATs and GPAs. What will put you on top over others will be a well thought out portfolio. Ideally if you have access to a current student at Cornell to critique your portfolio would be best.
