Cornell university-chance me,unable to bear the tension.

GPA:-3.95(unweighted),4.1(weighted)
weighted percentage:-93.8%
class rank:-top 10% (our school doesn't give numbers)
SAT:-790 math,540 CR.
SAT 2:-math 1-630 math 2-610 physics-630
AP and honors classes:-AP Calculus BC,AP Macroeconomics,AP Physics,AP Chemistry,Hnrs american lit.
EC's:-not much because i just came over (2 years ago) to the united states.i did my junior and senior year here.Any ways i did many activities in my senior year (i think so).I am listing some below.
1.I was the lead of my high schools dance team in India.we won 2 state tournaments.
2.I was a part of the school cricket team (well,i know the confusion, cricket is like an elder brother of baseball.it is a bat and ball game too but played all over the world).we won 3 district summer seasons.
3.i am a part of the academic quiz team in my high school over here.we won 2 tournaments. Georgia history quiz bowl and the Walton academic challenge. And also we are bound for Washington d.c for the national history quiz bowl (yippy..!!)
4.Technology student association (TSA).i participated in 2 state conferences and won 2 place in fall leadership conference (Athens,ga) for CAD 3d engineering design.

Astronomy Olympiad finalist (Top 250 in the state)
Qualified for the Indian national math Olympiad (only a few from each state qualify)

National honor society.
Honor roll (all the semesters).

Research:-I have been doing research on propulsion systems and in particular came up with some new ideas regarding space craft propulsion systems.Researched extensively on integrating the nuclear technology with space crafts propulsion.

Cornell Essay:- they asked to tell an idea of engineering which i am very interested in and i put down exactly what i researched.according to essayforum folks it is a brilliant essay.in my uncles words,he saw an innovator in me (lol i did not tell telling those words).i think its a great essay too.

Additionally i was the only person in Atlanta,GA to attend the cornell alumni information session meeting.its kinda like an interview but not one on one official interview.it is supposed to be a group one but no one else came. I think i gave a pretty good image of myself in that meeting.2 people interviewed me.

so thats it guys, please rate my efforts and tell me whether i can get into Cornell university.please also tell my chances for northwestern and northwestern ISP (they sent me an e-mail to apply for it).

I would say Cornell will be a pretty big reach due to low SAT CR and SAT 2, also your GPA is only average. Just an FYI, NU sent ISP emails to everyone who applied into McCormick or other science majors so that was more of a general overview of the program. Definitely apply though. I think you can probably get into NU but ISP will be difficult.

hey thank you very much for your reply.i highly appreciate your evaluation.i was just wondering what kind of effect would my essay have on the admissions process.because i am expecting it to have some sort of positive pushing effect .i just happen to think like that because my SAT math score and my essay correspond.i still dont know the weighted GPA but that just an estimation.so what do you think about the essay effect on my admission…?? any input would be highly appreciated.

hey, i actually go to cornell and know a lot of engineers. your SAT scores are definitely on the low side for cornell, and you don’t have many AP classes (but i’m guessing that’s because you just came to America?). but your EC’s seem good and really focused on your major, which is a huge plus. i definitely think that cornell places a great emphasis on the essay because they really look for interesting people who are passionate about something. i’ve actually told many people that i believe it was my essay that got me in, so we might be in the same boat lol. so i’d say that you have a pretty fair chance. this is also based on the fact that engineering is actually one of the easiest of the 7 schools to get into.

Thank you very much for reply. As you guessed it took a lot of time for me to understand the system of education.it took me a lot of time to even open my mouth and talk due to the language barrier and especially the southern dialect.so do you think Cornell would understand my situation and consider me…?
