Cornell University Chances?

I’m a junior looking into Cornell for engineering. My test scores are ok, gpa is LOW but ECs are where I stick out. Chance Me?

  • Started a FIRST Tech Challenge team in 9th grade which I’ve been captain of for the past two years and which has gone to the world championships (and been nominated for awards there) both years
  • Recognized as top 200 students in the Dean’s List at robotics worlds (out of several hundred thousand)
  • Varsity Swimming for two years
  • JV Water polo for 2 years varsity for 1
  • Varsity sailing for 2 years
  • Volunteer at public library teaching children how to use 3d printers
  • Created multiple iPhone apps which help to manage schedules for my high school (2000+ users) and scoring apps for robotics (3000+ users)
  • Coded multiple websites for businesses as a paid job
  • Investment Club
  • many others that I don’t have time to list right now :slight_smile:

im not saying that college admissions is random but I think that college admissions is kind of unpredictable - you could have a perfect SAT and GPA with amazing extracurricular activities and still not get into cornell, I do not think that using CC for your chances is an accurate depiction of your college admissions into this college. I would say, keep doing what you’re passionate about and show commitment and hopefully you’ll admissions to this college

Your weighted GPA is very low for Cornell, and it doesn’t seem like you have a truly unique or outstanding hook. Unless you have some extenuating circumstances to explain why your GPA is so low, I’d say it’s a reach. You might get lucky though, and it doesn’t hurt to apply. I partly agree with the above poster as well, don’t get too wrapped up on chances here and chances there, just stay true to yourself and try to keep an open mind! Good luck.
