@DaedricSaiyan What are the internship/job opportunities like right now? Are there lots to choose from? Is there time to socialize and to have free time in general being in an engineering major? And is GPA a worry for many people, or do you get decent grades if you study?
Has anyone received their Applicant ID and PIN yet from Cornell admissions?
Thanks!
My S applied RD to the college of engineering and just received an interview offer. Has anyone else received an interview with alum offer?
@DaedricSaiyan Does Cornell offer merit based scholarships to RD applicants?
@educationfan I thought Cornell interviews were only for Architecture students, I had not know there was interviews for engineering students. In fact, the admissions requirements page says they will NOT give interviews to engineering students. Here’s a quote:
Hmm… interesting… I guess we’ll see what’s it about…
Hello everyone!
Just turning in my application to CALS. Applying RD from rural New York, 30 ACT 95.2 GPA so Cornell is my stretch… Really nervous! Wrote essays about interning at various Zoos/Large animal practices. Tried tying in background in rural community to Ag, we’ll see how that goes. Anybody else doing CALS?
I’m applying good luck, everyone!
@educationfan Ivy League schools don’t offer merit based scholarships.
What are my chances??

Comments: Just a hopeful student.
@bookiee Considering “IS CORNELL YOUR FIRST CHOICE? NO”
and
SAT: 1340, 1860
your chances will probably be on the low side.
@bookiee high reach
@bookiee 15 AP’s? Damn. I thought my 8 was impressive…
@realperson2990 LOL I worked really hard and in FL we have a program known as FLVS, where you can take AP courses online.
I am applying for CALS as well. My SAT scores are also on the low side (1340 new, 670 math ii, 650 bio iie) Considering I have not taken a biology course I was pretty proud of my 650, lol.
I am intending to major in mathematics and possibly CS through CALS. Computer theory is very fascinating, and Cornell definitely has a strong background in computer theory.

EC: TONS
Really hoping to see some of you there in the fall! (REALLY HOPING)
@math3matical
I see a lot similarities between our stats… With the exception of Filipino ( is that a URM?) and female and I’m taking only one college course this year although 4 APs… Also top 9 percent, 30 ACT ( 1340 equivalent), really solid ECs, 3.89 UW GPA, rural farm town… Cool how you’ve been specializing in computer stuff! Vet for me… Hopefully we both get in! I’ve heard that Cornell and other Ivies are also looking to expand admission beyond northeast, could be a point in your favor…
I am not sure if Filipino is considered URM (I feel like it totally should be). We are the hispanics of the pacific islands but are usually just labeled as “asian”. We are very different from other asian cultures. We don’t use utensils for the most part, and a large majority of the islands are aboriginal peoples. And Filipinos DO tend to be underrepresented in universities.
Hey guys! I would have applied ED to Cornell but financial aid was an issue and they said to apply RD anyways, regarding interviews. I visited in October and my impression was that interviews are entirely informational. They’re for you to ask questions and learn about the school and for the school to learn about you, but they’re less heavily weighted than schools that use interviews to evaluate you. With that said, I think they sometimes extend interviews to people who are applying to colleges that don’t offer interviews (i.e. CALS, engineering) based on alumni activity. Hope that helps.
@DryMango from the Cornell financial sample package page they give three basic examples of how much institutional aid they offer. The three result in $6,000, $16,000 and $26,000. I’m pretty sure that I will fall into the 16k zone so I gave the go-ahead for my son to apply to his dream school of Cornell. If it turns out to be 26k I will make it work any way I can.
He is definitely taking out loans and doing the work-study whether I can cover the whole thing or not because I feel college should really be handled by him and his responsibility to pay back all loans he incurs.
Goodluck with RD, I hope it turns out within your range as well.
@DryMango @reformedman
Same here… Financial situation is pretty uncertain of me so parents asked for me not to apply ED… Unfortunately… Its a real shame, since then Ive heard conflicting reports about being able to “pull out” of ED contracts if you can’t afford it… Whats done is done I suppose
