****Cornell University Class of 2021 Regular Decision Thread****

@NeuroNerd99 I’m not a URM, but I am gay, and I am a first gen. I believe you should be fine

So far I haven’t read of anyone applying to biology and Society…

I got a likely (diversity) letter and I’m “just” a Hispanic male in engineering. @angelkitty247

Okay thanks. I’m just probably not at the top of the URM list, so that’s why I haven’t gotten a likely letter.

@DryMango what do you mean “just”. You probably have decent stats. My point is that being a URM alone won’t get you in. Also, you should never expect/think you deserve a likely letter.
In regards to your comment, I truly don’t believe you got in just because you are Hispanic. Unless of course you have terrible standardized testing scores, ECs, grades, etc. Then, I guess you did get in based “just” by being Hispanic, which isn’t something I would boast about…

Have you heard back from Cornell? @kalons

@NeuroNerd99 I have not! I also applied to ILR. Likely letters are very rare, though! CC is the cream of the crop when it comes to college applicants, so of course, there are going to be quite a few who get them on this site. I think it’s okay

Any Cornell Engineering Applicants around here freaking out about decisions?

@NeuroNerd99 I applied to biology and society

Have you received a LL or a diversity letter??? @kendizzle

@NeuroNerd99 I did, ya :slight_smile:

@angelkitty247 Sorry, I misinterpreted your comment. I thought you were implying that being Hispanic wasn’t a URM, and that someone had to be Hispanic AND a women in engineering. I didn’t realize you meant “just” Hispanic in relation to why someone got in.

I honestly just misunderstood what you were saying. Also, I don’t think I deserved to get in, I think that it’s just a big game and I got lucky. Good luck to all the other amazing applicants in this thread!

Do you know if biology and Society is a very impacted major? I would think so, most STEM majors are. @kendizzle

@DryMango no worries haha my message was unclear! Congrats for getting in!! You probably deserve it

@NeuroNerd99 I don’t know all that much, but I don’t actually think it’s a popular major. however, all the people I talked to said it’s one of the smallest programs, so it probably is impacted

Is Global and Public Health Sciences also competitive? I haven’t seen many people apply for it and I know it’s a relatively new part of CALS.

Did you receive an alumni interview? Do you think that helped? @kendizzle I’m so nervous, just got rejected from UCLA but hoping that I can get into cornell.

@DryMango I don’t know how I got in either honestly. I’m just immensely grateful.

@NeuroNerd99 I did have an interview, and as nice as it was, the interviewer told me it would have basically no weight on the decision

Dang. I also had an interview to, but my alumni graduated from 1962 so I think receiving an interview back then was a bigger deal. I live in central CA btw so not that many alumni.
