Does Cornell give any Merit Based Scholarships? Any Full Tuition Scholarships?

IDK I’m just SO worried for tomorrow… CALS is honestly my dream school. I am an avid foodie, and I love topics in the STEM field. I hope the admissions officers looked at my SAT 2 scores even if they were not required… Do you think they just don’t look at them or at least give them a glance? I wish you all good luck (:

@KaleSeed Of course! They review what you send.

Whew! I just thought b/c it wasn’t required, they wouldn’t review it. My sat 2 scores are way better than my mediocre sat 1 scores. Thanks @mdchang99 ! Are you super nervous too?

I had managed to suppress my nerves this whole time- I had tests to study for, scholarships to apply to, etc. BUT knowing that I’m receiving the decision to my dream school on my 18th birthday in just a few hours is ridiculously frightening! D:

@soulsurfer99 Whatever happens tomorrow, I hope you have a great birthday! You only turn 18 once

@soulsurfer99 OMG! Happy birthday (: If we both go to Cornell, I’ll bring you cookies for your birthday! I’m also very VERY stressed. What college at Cornell did you apply to? LOL trying to study right now… Not going well… on question 5/10

@KaleSeed Yeah I’m stressed too. I pretty much stalk CC every day. I stayed up and waited until after my parents were asleep to start freaking out lol! There’s a lot of pressure riding on tomorrow. I hear back from 4 schools and I’m soooo not ready

OMG @eli112 same! I’m “doing physics homework” hee hee (aka stalking CC) right now. I can totally relate!

SAME

@wormholes, Thank you so much! I appreciate it

Right? I have a BC Calc quiz to “study” for tommorow

@KaleSeed, YOU ARE THE BEST  I applied to CALS as a major in Animal Science! How about you?

I’ve been taking L’s since my 4th quarter started. Ill bring them up in like the alst 2 weeks lol

Thanks @soulsurfer99 ! <3 I applied to CALS as a major in Food Science (: Animal science sounds SO cool!

Hi, @pacbac (and all).

I’m a CAS comp sci alum (class of '90) and also a parent whose son is applying. Only recently got around to checking out this site (and specifically, just this forum section via a quick google for some info). Had no intention to actually register and comment… until I just happened to see [your comment #1020](****Cornell University Class of 2021 Regular Decision Thread**** - #1021 by pacbac - Cornell University - College Confidential Forums).

As one who went thru the older, pre-expanded-CIS CAS route for this major, I’d like to affirm for you that comp sci at Cornell, especially via the CAS route, is probably much more math-oriented than most people usually think – and I mean theoretical math oriented (eg. lots of time spent in proofs, etc), not quite so much engineering type math. In fact, my own major advisor was a long time math professor who made sure I recognized that reality about the program, which I had no clue before enrollment. And the math tract I took was essentially that of an applied math major’s – and back then, there were very few comp sci students in CAS, so I was usually in minimal size math classes (for calculus, linear algebra, etc) that were maybe 90% math majors.

Not sure all that much has changed about the math aspect of the major via the CAS… at least for the straight comp sci major (vs information sci, etc, which didn’t formally exist back then). You will almost certainly also spend lots of time in discrete math (both theoretical and applied) – probably more than most other comp sci majors in other schools, including some classes that might be considered graduate level (and not required) elsewhere.

Your apparent orientation toward math (in your essay) probably bolds well for how you’d fit in, so don’t sweat that one bit – sounds like a plus if you ask me.

In any case, Godspeed to you (and everyone else here) as you (and my own son too) await on decision day!

Cheers!

@KaleSeed No I applied for Comp Sci in CAS, I ended up writing more about math than comp sci in my essay though lmao so not really sure what to think. Hopefully the fact that they’re both in the same school and are closely related subjects didn’t hurt me too much…

@soulsurfer99 I applied CALS for animal science too!

Thanks so much for your helpful input @TheUncool ! (:

Oops! My bad. My mix of browser and this site must’ve acted up… misleading me to repost my previous comment. 8-}

Relax… and cheers! X_X  B-)

@TheUncool I am having problems with my browser too! And thanks! Cheers!
