@math3matical January 1
4 kids from my school all got emails, but I live in a relatively big city so that’s probably why
@kendizzle I live in a small rural town so that makes sense
Same here… Small rural town but in NYS so there are plenty of Cornell graduates in the area… Bizarre, I had hoped I would be contacted
Hi all
I know there is a way to update applications sent to Cornell ( based on changes in ECs, etc). I recently started tutoring some struggling students a few hours a week and was wondering if that was important enough to contact Cornell about. Would anybody offer any advice? I don’t want to skimp on something that could sway admissions decisions, but also don’t want to needlessly bother them. Thanks
@realperson2990 because it is not an activity that you have been dedicated to the last four years, I would not recommend adding it. The tutoring may come off as a “fling”, a last ditch, superficial community service project that you’re using to get in.
Use the updating feature to tell Cornell about major awards, address changes, etc.
Solid advice, I wasn’t sure how the feature was typically used. Definitely don’t want to come off as desperate though, thanks for the advice. @DryMango
As a recent applicant (current freshman, Human Ecology), I wanted to give some information regarding the CAAAN interview. I had one of these in early February of 2016. I know that sometimes colleges will advertise their interviews as non-evaluative, but this one actually is. I came prepared with my resume and everything (considering I had just come from a supposedly “non-evaluative” Dartmouth interview the day before), and the interview took less than twenty minutes. Honestly, I only recommend it if there is something that you left out of your application, as interest really isn’t a factor at Cornell, and what happens at the interview really won’t help you that much in the grand scheme of things.
While the interview may be non-evaluative, it can give Cornell information that wasn’t necessarily brought out in the application. During my daughter’s interview, they discussed one of her ECs where she had to take on an unexpectedly large leadership role not usually handled by students, and the interviewer said that she would make a point of mentioning that in her report to Cornell.
some schools within cornell say “interviews not available” i believe CAS is like this and Human Ecology, any other ones?
my ACT score hasnt processed yet… it did for other colleges…
@callmegray mine hasn’t been processed yet either
I received an email a few weeks ago about the interview. Like did I want the interview or not. I replied yes but I still didn’t receive any email regarding the interview details. Should I send them another email or have they not found anyone to interview me?
@Nimisha99 Wait. As long as you responded in the affirmative, the ball is in their court now. Also, if you dont get an interview it doesnt mean anything…
@I know but don’t they like consider any new information. I just wanted to explain something more about my academics if i get a chance.
You could reach out to the admissions and talk to them about how you should share the new info.
interviews are by telephone right?
My son’s interview was near our home - at an alum’s home actually. About 1 hr.
My son got an email from chair of local alumni association. Lots of kids apply from their school. Alumni said they are conducting informal session at their school end of month and to respond if interested. Looks like they will offer an opportunity to ask questions in the session. Is this common to have a group session?
Guys, Cornell still hasn’t even gotten my writing supplement. Or anything else for that matter (except for commonapp)… ANyone else in the same boat??
