Cornell University Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

Has anyone received any request for financial aid docs? Wondering how that works because I don’t think they were requested through IDOC?

my son just got an email yesterday to schedule an interview (zoom) and he applied ED for the CHE as well. the email did say “it won’t affect the admission decision”. what is the interview about? to learn more about the school and able to get some insight from alumni?

Does anyone know?

I applied CSS and CSS asked me to submit many of my financial docs, W2, 1099 and something like that. (I don’t recall but at least 4-5 documents,) and asked me how much $$ I have or “how much I can pay for the college”. something like that. I don’t expect any aid from them anyway.

Yes, it’s just to get more information, help answer any lingering questions, and to hear about the alum’s experience. It is completely non evaluative. We just check off a box saying that we met or we didn’t.

Thanks, it is what I thought as well.

i meant the CSS profile. It is odd that they asked me my information and charged me to submit the info to the school. anyway, CSS profile asked m to submit my financial documents.

Thanks. For some reason I thought Cornell did not use IDOC (financial info uploaded through CSS) and instead asked for it directly from the applicant.

Hi guys,

What are my chances of getting into Cornell as a Chinese student?

I applied to the College of Arts & Sciences. Physics major.

GPA: The IB doesn’t really do GPA. But if 7–6=A, 5=B, and 4=C, then I have 5Bs and 1C in total across high school. All Bs and Cs are in humanities and Chinese (i’m Chinese but IB Chinese is so hard). Predicted Grade: 41/45 all 3 bonus achieved.

Additional Exams:
AP Calculus BC: 5 (Calc AB subscore: 5)
AP Physics C Mechanics: 5
AP Physics C E&M: 4

SAT: I do test-optional

IELTS: 8.0 total

Extra-curriculum:

  1. Founder: WeChat and YouTube video channel on IB related educational videos. Collected 15w views, 7000+ likes, and 4500+followers. 3 years
  2. Physics TA 2 years
  3. Founder/Initiator: Community Music Livestreams. 1000+ viewers in total. 1 year during COVID.
  4. Founder: Science-Philosophy TED-styles knowledge sharing community. Organized 3 guest lectures for 50+ audiences. Had 2 School Assembly speech. 4 years
  5. Founder/President: Math Competition Club. 4 years. Won the School Merit Award for AMC 10.
  6. Founder/Supervisor: STEM tutoring sessions in the school community. I give training sessions to the tutors I selected, and I also work as a tutor. 3 years
  7. Paid tutor: IB Physics, Math, and Chemistry (also some freshman college physics). 3.5 years
  8. Leader: Swimming club. First place in Beijing Water-cube invitational swim meet 50m free (32.08s) (I’m not an athlete, not even close). 3 years
  9. Leader/Initiator: Music Club/Orchestra. Initiated 30+ concerts. 4 years.
  10. Cornell Pre-College program: ASTRO 1101. GPA: 4.0. All 3 credits earned.

Honors:

  1. AMC 12A DHR; AMC 12B HR; 2023 USAMO Qualifier
  2. Review paper collected at CPCI index
  3. British Physics Olympiad R1 Top Gold Medal/Physics Bowl D2 National Silver
  4. School Academic High Honor Roll/Physics Outstanding Award
  5. ABRSM piano grade 8 merit

I think the recommendation letters are pretty good. The two teachers I asked knows me pretty well, and I also showed them what Cornell wants.

The essays I think are ok too.

Please give some predictions. Thanks guys :D.

I just saw an old post like 8 years ago by a Cornell alumni who was doing the volunteer and the post said that after the call, they would write a short note to the admission office

Personal interviews are not required (or available) for admission to any of Cornell’s undergraduate level programs. While not evaluative interviews, first-year applicants to any Cornell college or school may request an informational meeting with an alumni admissions ambassador in their local area. This informal conversation with a member of our Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network (CAAAN) is not required, and is offered as an additional way for applicants to learn about Cornell. Applicants can request a CAAAN meeting at the time they apply in the Cornell section of the Common Application. Alternatively, they can request a meeting after applying via their Cornell application status page. Due to time, geographic, and volunteer constraints, not all applicants will be contacted; please be assured that applications are not adversely impacted if an applicant is not contacted or is unable to meet with a CAAAN member.

That changed a few years ago. No more report, just a check box.

thank you and by the way, do you know does Cornell compare the high school district test score against any applicants? for example: My son’s school district SAT average is 1200 and my son’s score is 1480.

Most schools will evaluate applicants in this context.

You are very helpful and appreciate all your insight.

Did anyone just get an email from Cornell reminding them of their Ed status and explaining the decision process.

just checked with my son, no he has not received an email regarding the status and process. The only email he got was to schedule a Zoom interview with an alumni.

Updating to say that we just received an email today through College Board that Cornell was requesting docs through IDOC so it seems they do use IDOC but maybe they don’t request them initially.
