Cornell University Fall 2018 Transfer (Chances?)

Hello everyone! It would be great if someone could give me feedback and chance me! I know it is a stretch but I thought might as well apply.

Applying for Fall 2018 as a Sociology major

State (if domestic applicant): Connecticut
HS Type: Medium/Large public? (Had over 300 in my graduating class)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: Lower/middle class, net pay $45-50,000
Hooks: First generation college student

High School GPA: 4.0 weighted (Top 10% of class)
College GPA: 3.7

I currently attend a community college in CT. I graduated with an A.A. in Multimedia Spring 2017, but I honestly just graduated to finish the degree. I have no interest in majoring in multimedia anymore. I stayed an extra year to do more general ed classes (I started Fall 2015 at CC, and will finish in Spring 2018), as a lot of my classes were art based.

SAT is unfortunate for me (I do not perform well on timed tests…20 minutes to answer 25 questions and read a short story?! It does not work for me…LOL ok rant over): 1560/2400

Does Cornell request transfers to submit AP scores? I feel they are worthless to them as I already completed the same classes in college…

APs that I passed (LOL): Language and Composition, Chemistry

Fall 2017 Courses - 12 credits
Film Study & Appreciation
Racial and Ethnic Diversity
Ethics
Introduction to Anthropology

Spring 2018 Courses - 9 credits
American Government
Sociology of the Family
Modern Western Literature

The reason why I am only taking 9 credits this spring is that I work 30 hours a week and will also begin an internship that is 5-10 hours a week, which means I could potentially be working up to 40 hours a week. Even though I’ve been working 30 hours a week two out of the three years at community college, I don’t want to overwhelm myself with four to five classes since I am also starting the internship.

I’m also considering enrolling in one or two summer courses this year.

Extracurriculars:
Habitat for Humanity (at my college)
Mentor at Boys & Girls Club (will be switching departments to start an internship)
Heifer Farm three day program

Unfortunately, I have not been able to be a part of most extracurricular activities at my college anymore due to my work schedule.

When I complete the Spring 2018 semester, I will have completed 85 credits. Go figure lol

Honors:
Phi Theta Kappa

I have also been considering applying to some of these colleges (If you could chance me for some of these that would be great): Amherst College, Boston University, Syracuse University, Wesleyan University, Emory University, Skidmore College, Northeastern University, Swarthmore College, and then of course a few state schools as my backups.

Thanks if anyone can give me feedback!!!

I also wanted to add that I took the SATs four-five years ago (I’ve been out of high school for a few years), so I’m
not sure how heavy they will weigh them since they’re really not accurate anymore…I would apply to the CALS
instead CAS but i haven’t completed enough of the prerequisites to be considered for admission (I’ve taken chemistry, not biology, etc)

Also all of the schools that I want to apply to (other than Cornell) don’t require SAT scores anyway.

I wish u good luck. I’m also applying as a transfer for fall 2018.

Hi !! wish u good luck!!! I apply this year as well!!! hope we all can get the offer

Hi everyone! I’ve been reading threads like this for a while so I figured I would show my stats since I’m applying to Cornell this fall as a transfer.

Applying as Civil Engineer major.

College GPA: 3.95 (mid level public university)

High school GPA: I have no idea. Graduated from high school in 2013. I think I placed 12th in my my class. Took every AP and honors class my school had to offer.

Athletics: MVP of football and baseball teams in highschool. Team captains of both as well. Awarded school leadership award my senior year. Awarded Senior Male athlete of the year from my school.

Since high school I joined the US Air Force and served 4 years as a high voltage electrician. Awarded Air Force Achievement Medal along with 2 Airmen of the Quarter awards. Was the lowest ranking member on record to be responsible for airfield lighting and maitence of the largest bombing precense in the pacific theater.

Letter of Recommendation: I’d say it was really good. Written by a professor I had for 2 classes. I was the only person in each class to receive an A.

Essay: Wrote about this substation Instillation project we currently have on base. The engineers on the project messed up royally and ordered the wrong transformers which would have doomed to project. I had to show them how they would not have meet the electrical needs of the building they were supporting for this project.

Extra info: My father died from a drug overdose when I was a baby. My mother was in and out of drug rehab as well growing up. Attended around 7 different schools growing up just for moving all over the place. I didn’t write about any of this because I didn’t want to use the sympathy card to get into Cornell.

Good luck to everyone! Cornell is an amazing school, and you all are very deserving to attend!

@DBaf20 @Kaschguo @mohamedali0923 Hey guys did you receive your decision yet?

@hopeful112 emm I got rejected…wish you good luck!!!

@Kaschguo Aww you were a CAS? Thank you though

@hopeful112 I haven’t heard yet. From what I’ve read engineering applicants don’t usually hear from them until the end. Honestly I’m going to just take my full ride from NYU and be done with this crazy process.

@hopeful112 I haven’t heard anything yet. I’m applying to CAS. I’ll keep you updated though, and I wish you good luck.

@DBaf20 Are you serious. Full ride at NYU is an opportunity that you can’t pass on. Cornell may have a slight edge in terms of reputation, but who cares. Graduating debt-free is so much better than reputation.

@hopeful112 yup CAS
