Cornell University - Spring 2018 Transfer - Discussion Thread

@cals2018
yeah, I was joking^_^. I hope I can get in.
and good luck to you. By the way, which college do you apply for?

CALS Bio & society @tianyasijunbukewang

Please tell me what you think my chances are
I applied to CAS - Government
Stats:
HS - 3.5 GPA
Worked a full - time job through HS. I also became a manager while im HS.
Ranked: 42/114
I am currently attending a CC in NYS.
GPA - 3.77 - Criminal Justice
(3.5 first semester, 4.0 second semester, likely a 4.0 current semester)
Working 2 jobs while at college (full-time student, full time Job).
I had the sheriff of my county, the Deans of my College and an English professor write my recommendation letters.
My essay talked about how I came from the bottom of the latter. How I Came from Puerto Rico not knowing any English and worked my way up the latter (moved within 8 different states and 8 different schools) I mentioned how I became a manager while in HS. I also mentioned we lived in a car for a while.
Mid-Term report (A,A,A,A,A,B)

To be completely honest, I do not think we can estimate or chance anyone’s stats. If Cornell sees potential in you, they will accept you. Everyone who has applied is more than their stats and the numbers that represent them. The one thing I love about Cornell is that it is a prestigious school but it is an inclusive school. It accepts the common person. It doesn’t matter what your grades are, it matters that you are passionate about learning and your major. If you can show that to them, then I think you are golden.

@SHA2018
Yeah, I think it is right, “any person… any study” I see some hope that they will accept someone whose English is poor.

Hi there! I have been lurking on this thread and last year’s for some time, haha. I thought I’d comment in hopes that others might post when they receive a decision. I think it might come out within the next two weeks or so and I am getting anxious, especially since I have already gotten into another university that I like and would need to put down my deposit there by December 1!

I’d rather not post specific stats for now. My test scores are pretty average to what is described on the Cornell website, and my college GPA is acceptable but could be higher compared to what others have posted. I’m applying to CAS. My main reason for transferring is I’d really like to study a field not offered at my current school.

I’m here for moral support! As you can imagine, my friends at my current university don’t enjoy obsessing with me over the details of my leaving them. (Does anyone else feel sad leaving their friends?)

And while I believe this housing portal/financial to-do list stuff as much as I believe my horoscope (so, kind of lol), I’ll share that I have not been able to log into housing today and my financial aid transcript reads “initiated”, not “ordered.”

I feel weird about posting too much personal/identifying info on the forum but I am currently studying in the US and I’m uh…a Capricorn sun, Scorpio moon.

@waldeinsamkeit the anxiety is real! LOL
I’m in the same situation with my friends too, but I can’t help but talk about it when I’m stressing about it!
I have not yet sent in my mid-term scores as yet though. Should that be an issue? Someone at the admissions office told me I could submit it any time before thanksgiving.

@cals2018 Feels good not to be alone, haha. Mid-terms were interesting… I didn’t think I had to send anything in because my university doesn’t formally issue them, but then I realized I had to fill out the teacher signature sheet and turned it in late, on November 9.

I got an email earlier warning that my application could be withdrawn if I didn’t have everything in by the Nov. 10, but I think it had more to do with a prof recc hiccup. I think they are more lenient with midterm grades, but also I don’t think they can review your app without them, so you’re delaying that perhaps. However you should take the admission officer’s word over mine! If they say it’s fine it probably is.

I got the same email few weeks ago and turned in my mt report through their web-form on Nov.8,when my last midterm grade had become available.
But it was marked as received by 10th,so I think I am good.
Btw my application had that status “Your materials have been received. Your application has been forwarded to the admissions staff for review.“ even before I turned in my midterm report,so my guess is they’re able to start reviewing your application even without it

@CSapplicant thank you for mentioning this! Helpful to know

Haha, I’m honestly so stressed about this decision. Does anyone wanna take a look at my application and stats? DM me and we can swap!

@hoooboy what school are you applying to?

Just got off the phone with the undergrad office. According to them, transfer applications will take longer to be looked at because they are “backed up.” So for those who applied to CAS expect to hear back around december. They said we would hear before christmas day for sure.

If my decision doesn’t come by December 1st I’ll have to withdraw lol.

I called CALS admissions today and they are releasing first round of decisions tomorrow, and will release every Tuesday until all of them are released they said maximum of 3 weeks for most applicants

take it easy, I am taking myself easy. Although I perhaps would be rejected, but at least I give my shot. Hi, guys, you are all heroes, at least we don’t afraid to be rejected.

@AAA1897 who did you speak with? Every time I call them they ask me to write an e-mail instead.

I just called also, haha. I also was told that decisions start tomorrow for CAS. I’m feeling a bit better!

Wow so decisions do begin tomorrow, after months of waiting it finally starts.
