I think they’ll offer way more than 30 though. Yield will be very low, since they encourage students to enroll in other colleges for the Fall. These kids are all top students, so the college they enroll for the Fall will also be great colleges. Once kids get used to the college and start making friends, it’s pretty hard to make them move to Ithaca in January. If they target 30 enrollment, they should send out at least 100, maybe 200 acceptance.
Does anyone know if Cornell advises for or against sending an additional letter of rec?
@rossperot412 well Cornell sent me an email about the waitlist today, and in it they said the advise against sending an additional rec letter. they do recommend sending a letter of update, however
What school did you get waitlisted from? @cardust
Which colleges sent emails to waitlisted applicants?
Also, where do you send letters/updates? To an email address or upload from the old portal?
@M_51222 human ecology
same @cardust
Does anyone know the breakdown of numbers of waitlist by school? Is the re-evaluation process specific to filling seats in specific departments, or will they care more about seats in the different schools in general?
Got waitlisted at SHA but didn’t get the waitlist email?
Anyone get a confirmation email after completing the online waitlist form?
Does anyone know about CALS for the waitlist… It would be nice to know how many they wait list from each college and how many they project to accept so we could know whether there is any chance
@winky1, no , no confirmation email, and don’t know where to send LOCI or any other updates. Did you receive confirmation? If so, are there instructions inside?
No confirmation here either. Will have her call to see where to mail/email her loci.
If you are serious about getting off the WL you should send in additional information around second week or third week of April. The packet can include, 1)another essay, 2) additional LORs from employer/teacher/coach/GC, 3) updated transcript (mid semester grades), 4) awards/recognitions/outside scholarship. If you are able to let the school know you would absolutely attend if admitted.
Most schools go to their WL around second week of May after they have received deposits from applicants on May 1. It is usually a good time to call.
If your GC is willing to make a call (you can also do so yourself), find out what was weak in your application so you and GC could address it in the essay/LOR.
You can send the packet via email or slow mail to the admission office.
If you are offered a spot they would usually want a response right away, but you or your GC could negotiate for more time. Most of time they’ll call you or GC directly, sometimes via email. Formal letter would only be sent out after you are committed. If you say no, they’ll just move on to the next students. They don’t usually rank students. It’s whoever shows the most interest and who pushes harder.
Would we be at a disadvantage if we do not send updated grades? @oldfort
I am not an adcom, so I can’t give you a definitive answer, but my kid was advised by her GC to do all of that and she did get off both Cornell & Duke’s WL. Of course there were kids who got off by doing nothing.
One thing to keep in mind is if Cornell over admitted and doesn’t go to its WL then it really doesn’t matter. I would encourage all of you to fall in love with your current options and move on emotionally.
If you get off the wait list, do they give you the financial info before requesting your decision? The whole reason my son didn’t do early decision was the financial situation.
Is it still FA blind when colleges pick students out of the waitlist?
Obviously the chances of getting of the waitlist are very bad… so does anyone know if cornell offers some people guaranteed transfer options off the waitinglist… ever?
Yea they seem to offer quite a bit @KAGANJA123
