I got into all three schools, and am now uncertain what to do. My number one was Tufts university; however, I got denied. With tufts in the rear view mirror, I have a tough decision. I want to major in International Relations, and have visited all three schools but can’t seem to find my best match.
At Cornell, I got into the school of Industrial Labor and Relations, in which I would get an major of ILR and minor in International Relations. Obviously, the academics are amazing and ranked highly at Cornell, yet I worry the ILR major would lead me in a different direction from policy.Cornell is a very large school and campus, something I’m uncertain about, but it doesn’t deter me. What worries me is the environment and people at Cornell, even though I would find people and activities I want to be invoked with.
I love the environment and people at Carnegie Mellon University. I have family in Pittsburgh and live the city, and I love CMUs campus; as its urban and still has its own green space and quad. I have also been invited to the Quantitive Social Sciences Scholars Program which would give unique perspectives and experience to data analysis. CMU has a semester in DC program so it still allows me opportunities through that. However, CMU is ranked very well in almost all of its programs but humanities. I’m worried that I’ll put in all the time and work and not be able to pursue a successful carrier I want.
George Washington is ranked as one of the top schools for International Relations and Humanities. Its proximity and access to DC gives great opportunities. However, GWs campus and environment is good and something I like, but is nothing I’m in love with or can get totally excited about.
I can obviously work hard and make the most of whatever school I go to, but I want to enjoy it and get the most out of it after I graduate.
Any input of the schools overall or especially within International Relations is appreciated!
