Save a life? Why not have them take a CPR course...or a fire safety course, a heilich manuveur course, a driving safety course, etc, etc....

Ok seriously, why would anyone be against learning how to swim? It would be like refusing to take drivers ed...sure, you might not drive anytime soon, but it's a helpful skill to have. And swimming just might get you to exercise a little bit!

even if you have no idea what you're doing, it's harder to sink than swim.

no, it's pretty easy to sink for me, hahaha..

but I'm not opposed to learning how to swim. it'd be pretty cool, taking free swim classes with other people who suck just as much as I do. (:

Why not take a CPR course instead?

1.) Swimming is so easy, why not learn how if you don't or cant?
2.) The purpose of it is that knowing how to swim could save YOUR life.
3.) I'm sure colleges offer courses in CPR, breathing maneuvers and driving safety, especially if the college has a EMT/EMS training program (Brown U. is a good example)

***, swimming? I've never even heard of that requirement...

all the people here who say they've never swam before are obviously lying

Haha, I never knew of a college that had a swim test. It's probably a good idea though, I know a bunch of adults who can't swim, kind of embarassing IMO, but maybe they were never taught/required.
