CORNELL v. OTHER IVYS: Pros / Cons

"Terrible location? Someday you might miss living in such a vibrant city amidst waterfalls, lakes, and wineries. "
I’d like it much better too if someone moved ithaca say, 5 minutes away from the outskirts of NYC

Or, say, even 50 minutes away.

It depends on your taste. Although I fully admit that there are lots of colleges which have crappy locations, I do think Cornell is one of them. But, Cornell has a nice campus and top notch academics, with a very intelligent student body. Within Ivies - Cornell and Dartmouth, IMO, have it the worst w/ regards to weather and location.

Sounds like these guys can’t rank things for crap.

Then it wouldn’t be Ithaca. It’d be a sprawling, expensive, clustered mess of highways and strip malls. Views from hilltops would be buildings for as far as the eye can see. The gorges would be far more polluted and crowded.

I get that living in cities has become trendy again so it’s popular to look down on anything less than a megalopolis, and I’m a city dweller myself, but you have your whole life to live in a major city and drink legally while you’re there. Find a way to adjust your perspective and enjoy what Ithaca is rather than spend 4 years griping about what it isn’t.

Seriously - it’s a great place to learn, to experience a strong sense of community and the unique political values that only exist because of its isolation, and to enjoy the 4 seasons. You certainly won’t be walking over waterfalls on your way to work when you leave.

I actually live about 50 minutes from NYC. Much prefer the natural beauty, outdoor recreational possibilities, and unique vibe of Ithaca.
