Same old story, interested in engineering and sciences (mostly chemical engineering or chemistry). Trying to decide between Cornell and RPI. Any advice - academics, social life (or lack thereof), political life (is it safe for a conservative), dorms.

A little put off by the size, location (middle of nowhere), being overwhelmed at Cornell. On the other hand, RPI is in the middle of a dump, less of a reputation.

RPI has great reputation. I'm probably going there. Cornell has the IVY status, but it's gonna be harder.. you'll get less academic support. Cornell is also ranked higher for engineering, so go there if you're really concerned about status. RPI isn't a terrible school though.... at all!

RPI's location is not that much better than Cornell's. I think the overall package, Cornell is a lot better than RPI. Or else, there wouldn't be so many people transferred from RPI to Cornell Engineering every year.
