I’m looking to tour Cornell, but saw that a lot of the programs (department info sessions etc) only run infrequently and on certain days.
Has anyone attended the CAS and/or Dyson Info Sessions? Is it worth making sure that they’re occurring on the weekend you’re visiting or is it just baseline information?
I took my kids to a CAS info session and it was really bad. It may have just been an off day, but it was not worth the time. However, this is not necessarily true for the other colleges. The Engineering session we went to was one of the best I have attended. If you are interested in Dyson, you may want to plan on that one, but based on my experience, the CAS session is not worth it (and I am a CAS alum).
I took my child to both the engineering and Dyson and they were both great. I think if you are going to make the time to go to Cornell, do the tour and as many of the information sessions that might interest your kids. The information is both informative and helpful.
I dunno, I went to a CAS info session with my son, a few years ago, and I didn’t find it that awful. Compared to other info sessions we attended at other universities I thought it was about average.
I’m not sure how informative it was, for me. But then again, I too am a CAS alum. So from the outset there wasn’t much she was going to say that I didn’t already know. That’s not her fault though.
It was a big group, in a lecture hall, not a seminar room. But all the same, the leader told what the school was about and answered questions.
I thought it was as helpful, or not, as others were.
YMMV.
OP may also want a dorm tour, if they are still doing that, which is separate from the campus tour.
Between all these different tours, and info sessions, one can wind up spending quite a while there.
Maybe break it up an go to one of the nearby state park too. If you go within the next three weeks it should be beautiful there.
