Cornell vs. Berkeley

i've heard many times that it is harder to get admitted to UC Berkeley than Cornell. is this generally true?

Yes, this is generally--and specifically--true.

ru kidding????????

so ur also saying its easier to get into JHU/Northwestern/Gtown than it is than Berkleley

unless you live in california, it's probably true.

berkeley is notoriously hard for out of staters, i'd say that the statement has a fair chance of being true, though I don't pretend to know anything about berkeley's admissions rate/applicant pool, other than that it's a very highly regarded school.

OOS I'd say Berkeley is definitely harder. They take something like 11% of each class from OOS and its a world-famous school that attracts a huge applicant pool.

berkeley is REALLY hard for out of state. and for in state,if you come from some really ghetto school or something where people do really bad and you're just average, you can still get in. at our really competetive school, at least 30 people get in each year, but most of these students are all 3.6+ at least. all very qualified students that get into JHU/Northwestern/Gtown and others. but choose to go ther berkeley cuase its good and a LOT cheaper for instates at least.

It's generally not true. In-state acceptance rate is higher than Cornell's. Avg. SAT scores are also lower. However, as noted, Berkeley is tough to get into from out-of-state.

Is it hard to get into Cornell from out of state?

yes, it's hard to get into cornell from any state. It's equally hard to get into cornell from in state and out of state haha

I know someone that got into MIT and not Berkeley (OOS). That just shows how competitive Berkeley is for OOS. In my case, Cornell is much harder to get into since I am in state and because my school has a special connection with the UC system. Oh well, wherever I get accepted I'll visit.

i have three friends that got into UC Berk out of state, only 2/3 got into Cornell....

so much for ur theory

I'm not sure sample pools of four are big enough to make accurate theories ;)

i am not sure if a name like sparticus gives u so much credibility :)

when you're 13 you're not expected to spell it right ;) yeah...and then I just kept misspelling it on purpose because it was unique and would have been a pain to correct all of my old contacts. haha

uc berkeley, for instate at least, most of the time, they look mainly on gpa and sat score. less on ecs, etc. so i guess private schools would put ecs, etc into more consideration.
