Cornell vs Brown for ED

Hey guys, I am stressing over whether I want to apply ED to Brown or Cornell. While both are very different, I like both of them equally. However, I am leaning towards an ED decision at Cornell because it’s admission rate is 14% to Brown’s 8.7%. Is this number skewed by the people in the other cornell schools or are those just as hard to get into, what would you guess percentage of CAS is? Also, does anyone know whether Brown or Cornell gives larger advantage to ED?

I’ve heard that Brown looks over applications more carefully while Cornell mostly looks for big things like GPA, SAT, and national awards. I have a strong music resume/recording to send, but I know cornell doesn’t take the recording. I think this part of my application is very important, and is also focused on in my essay, so I’m wondering whether Cornell will not consider it because I haven’t won any competitions. My impression is that Brown is more similar to LAC’s in that they look for commitment and not necessarily titles/awards.

Cornell’s ED rate is notoriously skewed because of legacies, and I would probably go for Brown with your music supplement thing…

What are your stats like?

Doesn’t Brown also give weight to legacies?

My advice is to ED the one that you love. Don’t try t game it. The one you love is a better fit for you, and it will come across.

And, yes, each school at Cornell has different admissions rates. The overall rate is not good information.

^^^Agree apply ED to the school you most want to attend. You don’t want to be accepted ED somewhere and have any regrets.

Especially because it is two schools of comparable quality, “gaming” the system won’t really matter if it’s between Cornell and Brown. Go for the one you love most and that will shine in your application

It’s like 4 days away from the deadline. Did you finish both supplements?

Apply ED to the one you like the most, not the one you think you have the best chance at.

Hey guys, I don’t want to sound like I’m trying to “game” the system; I legitimately do like both schools a lot and am having trouble deciding which one I’d rather attend. For that reason, I’m somewhat more worried about my chances of getting in, as I don’t want to waste an advantage at either of them. My stats are 1580/1600 SAT and 93.5 GPA with strong upward trend, will be higher after first quarter. Fairly strong EC’s. One presumably very good recommendation and one more average. I’d say fairly good essays but it’s hard to tell.

About the only thing those two schools have in common is they play in the same athletic conference
