Hi, I'm deciding between Cornell and CMU. I'd be reading engineering most definitely and would likely choose electrical and computer engineering (ECE). I'm also interested in taking up business/finance modules/minors. I'm an international student and i chose to read engineering for interest's sake. After completing my studies, i would likely be pursuing a general management role instead but i guess the engineering background would still be of use some way or another.

I understand CMU is renowned for its electrical and computer engineering program. Besides, it also has quite a gd business school as well. As for Cornell, it's engineering program is not too bad off as well. Besides, it's an ivy league school so the branding factor is definitely there i guess. Hence the dilemma...

Any thoughts and comments would be most deeply appreciated. Thank you all for your help in advance!

i don't know much about engineering, but the type of students at cmu are pretty much all the same from what i hear. cornell will offer you diversity, and probably a more fun college experience. i don't want to bash on cmu. i was looking into it myself months back, but i simply did not get very good vibes from it. and you're right about the branding factor, cornell is definitely more well known esp. internationally.

One of the gauranteed transfers to Cornell is coming from CMU so I guess it wins out in some situations. I'd picture Cornell having a much more diverse student body than CMU (especially interest wise).

Cornell is also very recognized internationally.

I'm the GT from CMU that Figgy mentioned, I haven't been on here in awhile. CMU is a great school and is roughly equal to Cornell (CS is probably stronger at CMU though). A lot of the CS students do fit the stereotype though some don't. My best friend here is CS and he is social and is actually in a frat. The social life at CMU varies from the strong gamers to the partiers... though the female/male ratio is noticeable I have to say. Pittsburgh is better than Ithaca, there is a lot to do here, I have a friend at Cornell that loves the isolated atmosphere though and NYC is close by. Cornell is definitely more well known than CMU, when I mention CMU half the time people have no idea what I'm talking about but I always get a "wow" when I mention Cornell. Hope that helps.

CMU and Cornell academics are both excellent, CS grads from CMU and Cornell do equally well. Visit both and see which one you like better.

Thank you for your help guys. With all that's said, I think my inclination is more towards Cornell now. I am an international student and the reason for my studying in the states is that I wish to meet a more different and diverse student body while having fun in school at the same time. Of course, a good and reputable education counts as well and Cornell is suitable in this aspect as well! Now, I'm just waiting for the acceptance letter to crawl its way into my mailbox by airmail! =) Thank you so much once again!
