Surreal. Surreal. I feel both incredibly fortunate and, more than ever, baffled by the college admissions process. For a person that, just two weeks ago, would be overjoyed to get into any one of these amazing schools, the prospect of having to decline offers from three of them is straight-out unthinkable.
However, with the difficult decisions pending, I wonder if posting one of these threads might help.
I was admitted into the engineering school at all four colleges and am currently leaning toward either civil or electrical. I have received comparable FA packages from JHU & NU and expect to get similar ones from the other two, so the financial factor should not affect the decision. I have visited Cornell (loved the campus) and will go to Baltimore & Evanston in the coming weeks; Houston might be a bit out of the way though, but we’ll try our best. Hopefully the visits will also help me make the decision.
I would truly appreciate any insights or thoughts pertaining to any of the schools, positive or negative.
Some factors I’m thinking about right now are:
• Career placement & four-year graduation rate
• Strength of program & overall reputation
• Academic atmosphere (competitive/supportive)
• Research/internship/study abroad opportunities for engineering major
• Surrounding area (I got the idea that for the cities, Chicago + Evanston ˃ Houston ˃˃˃ Baltimore)
• Quality of life/happiness
(Also, ideally, Greek life does not play an integral role in the social scene.)
BTW- thank you, the CC community, for your knowledge and support throughout the past months!
