Cornell vs. Johns Hopkins

Which school is more prestigious (overall)?

Cornell and Hopkins are both ranked #13 in the latest US News poll but that really doesn't tell you much.

If this relates to some applications you've made, I don't think this question has a "one size fits all" answer. It really depends on what areas you are interested in. Cornell, for example, has unique strengths in area like engineering, agriculture, hotel administration, and people who work in those fields know that. Conversely, Hopkins attracts an enormous number of pre-meds because of its strength in that area.

The other fact is that these schools are very different, and you'd need to factor that into your equation. I attended Hopkins for one year in grad school and eventually transferred out, not because of any deficiency in the school, but my prof wanted me to do historical research in an area that did not interest me. I had other friends who were at Cornell. We used to compare notes and there were many differences in the tone and tenor of the two schools.
