Cornell vs. Johns Hopkins

Hey everyone,

I just got accepted into both schools as a sophomore transfer and I have no idea where to go. I’m interested in being pre-med. I know that Hopkins may seem like the better school for this but I’m slightly worried about the environment/culture. I received about the same amount of money from each school so this is not a factor. Another concern I have is size. My previous school has about 1,200 undergrads so both schools would be huge in comparison. I’m not concerned about atmosphere when talking about city/nature, although I feel like I would do better being in a more natural setting since I really enjoy being outdoors, something Hopkins lacks. I’m just extremely confused about this whole thing. Any help/insight would be appreciated!

Bump! pls help meee

Where do you see yourself? Though you’re not overtly concerned with the contrast in setting, it seems you’re leaning Cornell. Both schools will offer a world class education, pre-med or not. To this end, there’s nothing wrong with choosing purely based on your heart or gut feeling. Although Cornell may offer a more comprehensive array of concentrations if you do not decide to pursue a health career.

Cornell’s campus is stunning and the surrounding area even more so. If you like the idea of walking by waterfalls on your way to class, or having a lake view, Cornell is the place. In Ithaca there are several state parks and 12 different waterfalls all within a short drive of campus.

Academically they are on par with each other. Some threads on here have discussed the relative difficulty of obtaining hospital internship experience in Ithaca as a pre-med, but obviously Cornell sends many students to med school even without having a major hospital on campus.
