cornell vs johns hopkins?

can someone tell me the pros and cons of each? thanks

CORNELL
+Strong academic rep
+Lots of clubs, lots of majors and academic options
+Great Hockey Team (and basketball this year)
-Cold Weather… like really cold
-More rural location
-Big school (13,500 undergrads)

HOPKINS
+Strong academic rep, undergrad teaching
+East Coast City location, easy access for internships/job interviews
+Small school (4,500 undergrads)
-Only Lacrosse Div I sport
-Cars aren’t an option in the city
-Upperclassmen live in surrounding village, not always on campus.

Apple vs. Orange - both are good depending on what you want. Good luck!

My son and his wife graduated from Hopkins a few years back. We spent a lot of time in Baltimore and loved it! I think the undergrad education at JHU is excellent, lots of opportunity at the school and in the surrounding areas for internships and jobs post-grad. DS is from the west coast, large public high school, liberal arts major at JHU. He did not have a car till his junior year, lived on campus for two years and then two blocks away in a row house for jr/sr year. Area south of campus is not good, north is beautiful, northeast lots of student housing, & northwest a bit sketchy. Some snow in the winter, very humid summer/fall, old buildings don’t have a/c, hence window a/c units or fans everywhere. They are still there and planning to settle down either in MD or DC. E-mail me if you need any more information.

Cornell

A beautiful campus that provides students with plenty of outdoor experiences.
Food on campus is wonderful!

This past winter was pretty bad in Maryland. They had more snow than Ithaca if I am not mistaken.

Depends on the major and the type of college experience you are looking for.
At JHU, all freshmen still eat together and on campus housing is required for the first two years. The Cities of Balitmore and Ithaca are very different.
Seriously, a car is not needed in Baltimore.

Even though MD had a record snowfall, spring still comes early and lasts longer - ;)

I have a daughter at Cornell and a nephew at JHU, both of them are very happy with their college experience. My nephew is an econ and international relations major at JHU, so he is not of pre-med rat race. He is in a fraternity and ROTC with excellent grades. I think my nephew would have done well at Cornell too.

thanks everyone!
