Hey guys! I recently got off the wait list at Cornell and was offered admission to the Dyson School as an AEM major. Prior to being accepted, I had committed to NYU Stern to study business finance. After college I plan to pursue a career in the financial sector. While I understand that I ultimately have to make the decision independently, it would be of great assistance if I could get your guys’ perspectives on the issue. Thanks for your time. (The costs of both schools should come out to be similar with financial aid)
Both are fine choices as you know. The biggest difference is the environment of the school. Would you prefer to spend the next 4 years on a lovely upstate campus or in NYC at a school with no campus?
@happy1 While I prefer the fast paced nature of NYC, I am pretty flexible on school environment. For me, I think the biggest factor is the opportunities presented by each school. Does one of the schools have a better reputation in the field of finance and placement into subsequent jobs?
For IB, both Stern and AEM place well. AEM might carry a bit more weight due to the Ivy prestige and finance at Stern is extremely cutthroat. On the other hand, Stern has the geographical advantage. I’d would personally go to AEM, but opportunities at each school are pretty much even. If you want advice on your school choice from people that are a bit more professional, go on Wall Street Oasis and see what they say.
Do you mind sharing you ACT and/or GPA?
@ben69420 Thanks for the advice! The Wall Street Oasis posts helped a lot.
How often would you travel from California to Ithaca?
@ClarinetDad16 Since I’ll be studying in New York I will be able to visit Ithaca
