Cornell vs. Princeton

cornell has more majors than princeton in science. does that make it better? cornell recruites more people than princeton. does that make it worse?

the answer to both of those is no. cornell admits more people than princeton not because it is less selective but because they are large enough to recruit the many qualified applicants vs. princeton.

but which is better? the answer is neither. in science, cornell and princeton are the top 2 schools in the ivies and both are in the top 10 in the world. in other areas, they are both great. Princeton is better known for a large range of things whereas cornell is mostly famous for their science program which is undoubtedly the most challenging in the world.

the leader of the mars rover team at nasa was from cornell.

nasa is known for favoring cornell applicants over other ivies. if you're going into science, cornell is the best college to go to (strongest program, best jobs offered afterwards, and most majors in science to choose from). if your are choosing something else, princeton or another college might be better, but cornell's still good.

please comment.

Carl Sagan could really pack a lecture hall.

what do you mean?

hmm ok whatever

before you smell your foot, think, how would a goat feel? and you shall be... truly happy

The Big 3 national, most widely read, undergraduate rankings have differences in criteria but similarities in conclusion. A look at their top selections:

Didn't Einstein teach at Princeton?

Princeton is a good school as well.....it's just that Cornell has the Science/Engieering Ivy punch to it, since it's ranked much higher in fields like Engineering, Medicine, Business and Law than Princeton. (n.b. Princeton has a few grad schools, but is more known for undergrad friendliness, as quoted by their dean).

Princeton is really great as well! Those would probably be the two Ivies I'd apply to....as well as MIT, Stanford and a bunch of others.

well considering princeton doesnt have a medical/business/law school....i would hope cornell were ranked higher

Princeton is a "good" school? I must have missed the "great" ones above it in the rankings.

Wait, Princeton doesnt even have a med school, a law school, or a business school. And which one does better in getting people into the top b-schools, med-schools, and law schools? Princeton without a doubt. In fact, of all the Ivies cornell traditionally has the worst grad placement in these fields.

As for engineering, a great majority of Ivy engineers go into consulting or banking, rarely becoming engineers. For this, Princeton wins hands down. In fact, most of the other Ivies do better than Cornell.

Cornell is a great school. I would say for a would be scientist or engineer looking to go into those fields (and not into professional schools or business), its a fine choice.

What is with this obsession over comparing which school is better? Geezie.

geez. i think this is a stupid question to begin with. you can't go wrong with either school. if you like both of them, just apply to both.

Einstein taught at Princeton. Therefore, we can conclude:

Princeton > Cornell

(by the way, Einstein is my idol)

Stop asking worthless questions and go write your quantum physics book.

How about you guys stop being so hostile. It's an innocent question.

Bottom line: Go to Princeton. We're way cooler ;)

i never said princeton wasn't great; it is. but this question means alot because as a will-be scientist i want to know what my choices are where. my major (theoretical physics) is not even offered by princeton as it is in cornell. in fact, cornell is the only leading school that offers it that i have found. in science, NOT OVERALL, cornell and princeton are more or less tied in reality. i just want to know if majoring in physics at princeton will allow me to be a string theorist (or something in that line) as easily as theoretical physics major would at cornell.

this is a crucial time for me. i'm willing to apply ED to either of them... but i want to know which one i should ED.

"Wait, Princeton doesnt even have a med school, a law school, or a business school"

That's what I meant....Cornell is much more research intensive/top-heavy. It has top law, medical and business schools which Princeton doesn't have. Princeton is more undergrad friendly. Anyhoo, Princeton is a great school. I'd be proud to be admitted at any of the two.

For someone who is interested in pursuing research as a career, choosing based on programs (as opposed to overall reputation) is an absolutely good decision, especially when both overall institutions are strong.

I am only referring to the countless pre-meds (and other pre-professionals) who flock to Cornell because of "good bio" who might be served equally or better elsewhere.

So your major isn't offered at p, that makes cornell better FOR YOU. Your posts are idiotic. Please don't go to princeton, go to cornell where you can stay secluded in Ithaca.

let's just say i major in physics alone. which school would it be better for me to apply to ED?
