Cornell vs Texas

Hey guys,

College decisions are in, and it looks like I got into Texas, but waitlisted at Cornell. Regardless of what happens, I really, really want to get off the waitlist at Cornell, but I don't know how much bigger of an advantage it is to go there, pay more, and stay somewhere where I'll be less happy just for the ivy league name. I will have to apply as a transfer to McCombs and AEM, but can you compare the two in terms of recruiting? Is Texas really that bad?

The reason I'm asking this is because I need to send stuff into Cornell, and I don't want to lie to them that it's my first choice school, when I honestly like Texas a lot better. If anyone has any ideas on how I can say that I am extremely interested, but it's not my number one choice, please let me know.

thanks

It sounds like you really want to go to Texas and in my opinion, you should stick with your gut and go with UT.

In terms of recruiting, UT is very strongly recruited in Texas, but no so much out-of-state. While that statement could be considered a huge jab against UT, it really isn't, because there are plenty of very solid job opportunities in the state of Texas. Texas is the second largest state in the US in terms of population and size, and the D/FW metroplex and Houston are two of the biggest business centers in the US and they're just going to get bigger and bigger as time goes on. If you graduate from McCombs, you will have plenty of solid job prospects, maybe even more than a degree from Cornell.

College doesn't define personality. Graduate top of your class at McCombs, take advantage of very biz. opportunity, get involved and never look back.
