cornell vs. uchicago vs. bu

I cannot decide between cornell, uchicago, and bu. I loved the campuses of cornell and chicago and they are top ranked school with great programs. Plus, I talked to the track coach there and they both want me on their team. However, I have always loved the city of Boston (I'm from CT) and a huge Boston sports fan and have wanted to go to BU since 7th grade, since I'm a legacy there. I want to major in neurobiology and then go to med school. I have already been accepted into uchicago and I'm applying regular to cornell and bu (I should get into BU and cornell is my reach). Which of these schools is best for pre-med

the choice seems rather obvious

I’d go with Chicago or Cornell (if you get in). And if you can get into UChicago, why not consider schools like BC/Tufts/Brandeis in Boston area? Do what feels right, but don’t be tied into a school because one of your parents went there.

The city of Boston will always be there, either for medical school or after. I would not let that overly sway your decision.

At the same time, I would not let reputation and rankings overly sway your decision either, if you have thoroughly researched BU and still like it the best. Many, many colleges provide good preparation for med school, BU among them.

Keep in mind cost and pre-med dropout rates. Medical school is extremely expensive, so you need to keep your undergraduate costs down, and BU is not known for being overly generous with financial aid. Most pre-meds do not apply to medical school; only about half of those taking the MCAT end up applying to med school, let alone those who dropped out prior to that point. Would you be comfortable with BU as a non-premed?

If your redentials are good enough to get you into Chicago or Cornell, why not aim for schools like BC, Harvard, MIT and Tufts?

I looked at Tufts and I didn’t like it that much. BC and URochester are also on my list but I will go to any of the other 3 schools before those two. I got a 29 on the Act, 25th in my class, and 4.0gpa. So I’m at the bottom of the 50% at Cornell, so Harvard and MIT will be impossible to get into. If pre-med doesnt work out, then anthropology is my backup. Im taking the money factor out of all the schools I looked at and am deciding up all other factors

One thing to also consider is quality of life/the environment you thrive in. For example, I’ve heard pre med at UChicago can be really intense, so if you thrive in that sort of environment it’d be a great place. If you don’t thrive in that sort of environment, it might not be the place for you. There are going to be pros and cons to each school, and if you get in to three places you love, eventually you’ll have to figure out where you’ll be happiest, based on the environment and your quality of life there.

On that note, Chicago is pretty good for Anthro, so if the whole pre med thing doesn’t work out, it has that going for it.

How have you already been accepted to UChicago?
