Cornell vs. UIUC (Engineering)

So, I know there are a ton of these, but this would super helpful!!

Okay, so I got into both Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Cornell (among others). I plan on majoring in chemical engineering. I don't know which school would be better for me. They're both ranked extremely highly in engineering, although UIUC is always just a couple of ranks ahead of Cornell. I think I would be extremely happy at both schools, but I would love to go to Cornell. My only problem with Cornell is paying the extra thousands of dollars (I'm instate Illinois) to go to this amazing school when I have a great engineering school three hours from home.

Is it worth the extra cost of going to Cornell when UIUC is also an amazing engineering school?

Not for strictly the engineering education, no. But for the additional resources available to students, the abillity to do research with professors, the worldwide alumni network, and the dynamic student body with all sorts of diverse interests, it is worth strongly considering Cornell. At the very least, visit for Cornell Days!

UIUC is a great engineering school, and I’ve met a number of people in my professional life who’ve done great from there.

What I don’t know is if these were the cream of the crop rather than the norm there.

but at least I can say the cream there does indeed rise, quite adequately.

Thanks guys, I think I’m just gonna wait for financial aid info before I decide where to go. More comments and thoughts would be much appreciated!!

you’re lucky im the other way around but i got denied at cornell sadly

is this engineer-speak code for something??

No, it’s English-speak.

Guess I’d have to put in some reference to a labor union before you would understand it though. (he-he)

I am unfamiliar with this idea of labor unions and ascension.
