I’ve been accepted to several colleges, but these are my top three. The costs would be about $13k for Minnesota, $28k for Cornell, and $36k for Illinois. My major is physics, but I might change to computer science or math or engineering (I have many interests). Knowing this, which school do you think I should go to? My gut tells me Cornell, but Illinois is ranked higher for engineering, and my parents say Minnesota because it’s cheaper. Thanks for the help
How affordable is the $15K/yr difference for your family? Would you have to incur any debt for Cornell? I’d scratch off UIUC.
How would you pay for Cornell? If from savings and income (you’re + parents) then pick Cornell. Otherwise, Umn - engineering has become super competitive there.
As a CS/Physics double major, the Physics program at UIUC is amazing. Are you in LAS Physics or Engineering Physics? The only issue is switching majors is near impossible for the really competitive ones (generally MechE, BioE, and CS). However, there is a computational physics concentration in the Engineering Physics degree. (and tons of cool concentrations really http://physics.illinois.edu/academics/undergraduates/ep-options.html)
That being said if cost is a factor there’s nothing wrong with the other schools.
If they can afford Cornell then it’s a no brainer.
Cornell is definitely affordable for my family. I may have to take out a few student loans, but nothing too large. I’m definitely going to Cornell after thinking about it.
