Cornell vs. Vanderbilt

Okay..I was pretty sure I'm going to Cornell (still am) but I was also accepted to Vanderbilt...and I was wondering if anyone could give pros and cons of both?

Thanks.

Vanderbilt is a more homogenous student body - therefore you will get less exposure to other cultures/opinions etc...

^that is a reason why i chose cornell over vandy

Have you visited either campus? What is your major? There are so many things you could tell us that would help us help you...

Sorry, I'll give more info.

I've not visited either one...I'm a biology major...sophomore transfer..pre-med.

Uhh...white, from the south. Not into liberal arts - I'd rather just do all science if I can, most humanities classes bore me. For Cornell - CALS.

I thought you told Cornell that you had to let Vandy know by May 2nd?

Anyway, I agree with the above poster, pmrlcomm - we need to know more about you!

You might want to think about a few things though...
[ul]
[]Compare financial aid packages.
[]Ease and cost of traveling to Vandy or Cornell.
(the above two points are mentioned because of previous posts about FA)
[]Hopefully you are over worrying about what a CALS diploma looks like and what people think of biology majors in CALS
[]Compare biology departments between the two universities.
[]Is diversity important to you?
[]Find out which school is more "transfer friendly".
[] Large or small campus
[] You mentioned in a previous post that you didn't like CAS at Cornell because of the distribution requirements. Vandy is similar to CAS, you should check out their humanities requirements.
[/ul]

Both great schools and great choices.

I agree with the nag (sorry, couldn't pass that one up...). You can't go wrong with either. I can't speak about Cornell. I don't know what the campus is like. If a park-like setting with warmer weather sound appealing then Vandy should tempt you. My advice, typically, is to go to whichever school you feel most "at home" with but since you didn't visit it makes it difficult. My D is a rising junior at Vandy in engineering. If you have any questions you can PM and I'll try my best.

@soccer_guy472: As a frequent poster, I feel as though I know you already! What's the story with the two choices?

^ Actually trying to make sure I chose correctly. I don't wanna regret turning down Vanderbilt.

It's pretty common for students to have "buyers remorse". I'm sure you would be happy at either place, although you might not be content with the liberal arts requirements at Vandy as compared to CALS. Try to relax, and enjoy the summer!

I might take flack for this, but I think you'll find a much more diverse, interesting, and intellectually stimulating culture at Cornell. Plus, the Cornell campus and surrounding area is truly just gorgeous (or gorges, as the saying goes).

But, I'm biased.

I'll add my 2 cents...

My high school has sent 2 people to Vanderbilt....and they were exactly the same.

My high school has sent many, many students to Cornell and each of us has our own unique characteristics.

I've never been on the Vanderbilt campus and my opinion is obviously biased....but Cornell (especially CALS) tends to have a strong transfer community and I think you will be very happy here.

soccerguy - if you plan to stay in the south, Vanderbilt might be a better choice for you - Cornell is more diverse and it is where I sent two kids raised in the south - but if your goal is to get into med school and practice in the south - Vandy might be a better choice for you - and you will certainly feel at home with the religious offerings...
